Job Description
The Medical Lab Scientist I in the Special Chemistry Department will be responsible for testing assigned specimens on the Evening Shift. This role involves sample extraction using manual pipetting techniques, Tecan, and automated technology. The scientist will conduct manual data reviews of calibrations, quality control, and chromatography, ensuring adherence to laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and reporting. Accurate maintenance of records for both patient test results and proficiency testing samples is essential.
ResponsibilitiesAnalyze specimens using approved testing procedures.Review and release test results.Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.Adhere to laboratory policies and procedures for test systems performance.Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or results, or notify technologist or supervisor.Perform manual data review of calibrations, quality control, and chromatography.Maintain records of patient test results and proficiency testing samples.Essential SkillsProficiency in Chemistry, Laboratory, Clinical Laboratory, and CLIA regulations.Experience with manual pipetting techniques and automated technology.Knowledge of gas chromatography and liquid chromatography.Ability to follow laboratory procedures and safety guidelines.Additional Skills & QualificationsDegree in Chemistry with 25+ credits in chemistry courses, including analytical and instrumental courses (Requirement for CLIA for State of CA).1 year of clinical lab experience is a plus.Experience with HPLC, GCMS, and LCMS.Experience in research, pharmaceuticals, or toxicology.Work Environment
The position is based in a clinical lab environment that is very busy with increasing volume. The shift is Monday to Friday from 4:00 pm to 12:30 am, with rotational weekends. A 10% shift differential is provided for the evening shift. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $62000.00 - $70720.00/yr.
