**Job Summary and Qualifications**
The Medical Equipment Manager will use their experience and expertise to develop medical equipment and furniture budgets to acquire the right technology at the best cost for HCA’s capital projects. As the Medical Equipment Manager you will be responsible for equipment program management relative to HCA’s capital development program
**Major Responsibilities:**
Works independently, provides technical direction/guidance with contract vendors and partners. Responsible for budgeting, planning and procurement of medical equipment and furniture for projects ranging in size from $3 million to approximately $30 million. Coordinates activities among all assembled vendors, hospital administration, contractors, architects, engineers and consultants. Ensure project compliance (within approved funding, scope, code officials) while maintaining ongoing hospital operations.
Audit/Inspection Responsibilities:
+ Ensure equipment procured meets clinical standards and is within scope of funded project
+ Periodic visit hospitals to monitor status of construction and scheduled delivery dates are accurate
+ During the Construction Administration stage of construction review any requested design changes that involve medical equipment to assure conformity with standards
+ Ensure project compliance within approved funded scope for medical equipment
+ Conduct medical equipment due diligence reviews for proposed facility acquisition as required
Administrative Responsibilities:
+ Provide budgets for medical equipment, furniture, and modular casework for proposed construction projects.
+ Coordinate with architects, engineers, general contractors, medical equipment vendors and hospital personnel during design development and construction phases of a project.
+ Responsible for maintaining budget and medical equipment delivery schedules.
+ Process any necessary NOCC for medical equipment capital increases with the appropriate justification.
+ Provides cost reduction opportunities during budgeting process in order to maximize the use of capital funds.
+ Procurement management of medical equipment during construction process to include purchase order issuance
+ Assemble/Compile specifications for the equipment to be supplied Owner Furnished Equipment brochures and Vendor drawings
+ Evaluate and monitor the project progress against contractor’s delivery schedules to verify accuracy of delivery dates
+ Follow-up and respond to medical equipment coordination problems that routinely occur during installation of different systems. Initiate appropriate changes in the process to rectify problems, if necessary.
+ Maintain relations with and manage expectations of hospital administration. Evaluate requests for changes in equipment to determine if requests is within scope of funded project
+ Responsible for timely project closeout
Strategy Setting Responsibilities:
+ Develop medical equipment list
+ Review and analyze medical equipment budget during design process relative to corporate approved budget and project scope to determine and verify if the established objectives of the project can be attained within the corporate approved budget. Initiates appropriate action, if necessary.
+ Coordinate with Capital Planning and Analytics (CPA) to ensure HCA’s capital objectives are met
+ Work with Design Directors and Construction Directors in developing the most strategically advantageous manner to take the projects to the bidding market
+ Manage project development budgets during pre-design and plan development in order to maximize the use of capital funds, also known as capital productivity improvement
+ Prepare certificate of need (CON) budgets to support any state CON submittals and provide deposition when required
Analytics/Forecasting Responsibilities:
+ Forecast upcoming equipment purchasing volumes, work with internal project management and financial analysists to best leverage scale for the absolute best price.
+ Constantly analyze costs.
+ Manage metrics and reporting needs of the D&C Department as it relates to Medical Equipment spending and initiatives.
+ Analyze overall equipment spend, “right size” individual project needs by recommending the most appropriate level of technology at the lowest possible cost
Leadership Responsibilities:
+ Manages communications with Interior Designer, Contractors, Architects/Engineers, Educate new Architects/engineers, throughout vendor installation project
+ Manage Expectation of funded project with the facility leadership
+ Manage expectations of hospital personnel during design development and construction phases of a project
+ Lead and participate in coordination meetings with all internal and external team members. Make necessary decisions on issues that arise. Monitor architect’s schedule and quality control process. Initiates any action necessary.
+ Ensure construction coordination between the HCA Planner, Design Manager, Medical Equipment Manager, IT&S and Telecom Manager and the HCA Construction Manager
+ Supervision of risk management on capital projects relative to design, public/patient/staff safety and contractual obligations
+ From time to time this position may need to facilitate CON submittals; in the event of CON hearing provide deposition & testimony if necessary
+ Provide the opportunity for all members of the Medical Equipment Management department to develop to their fullest potential
**Group Leadership Responsibilities: (Otherwise known as Organizational Health)**
+ Train new construction directors on medical equipment processes, as required
+ Manage the Vendors assembled to furnish the work
+ Support Construction Management as necessary in the Budgeting and bidding stages of project
+ Development; activities may include solicitation, site visit, pricing formatting and development of phasing as necessary to develop budgets for projects
+ Lead cross functional teams, internal and external
+ Create and maintain a cooperative working relationship that will promote a high level of employee morale
**Education & Experience:**
+ Bachelor's degree
+ 7+ years of experience in relevant work experience
+ Working knowledge of a healthcare facility. Ideally a clinical or biomedical engineering background
