Summary CHENEGA PRO FEDERAL SOLUTIONS, LLC Gaithersburg, MD THIS IS AN INPENDENT CONTRACTOR 1099 POSITION The Medical Director Physician shall be responsible for the following functions at the National Institute of Standards and Technology Gaithersburg, MD location. Responsibilities As requested, serve as consultant to NIST Management on all matters regarding occupational medicine. Evaluate and render opinions regarding the medical aspects of fitness for-duty exams, pre-employment physical exams and NIST employee Federal Employee's Compensation Act (FECA) claims arising from reported occupational injury/illness/disease; obtain and assess medical information from referral physicians to reconcile OWCP cases when requested by the NIST COR or his/her designee. Evaluation of health services provided by the NIST Health Unit with recommendations to the NIST Safety and Health Manager for changes.in or broadening of service, as appropriate. Provision of consultation and advice to the NIST staff regarding occupational health concerns arising from research projects, etc., as requested. Provide medical and administrative support, as appropriate, to the NIST-EAP counselor in connection with the NIST-EAP (i.e., for alcohol abuse, drug abuse, emotional stress, etc.). Coordinate activities, training opportunities, and patient care best practices with the NIST Fire Department. Individual will NOT serve as the medical director for the NIST Fire Department. As requested, serve as a member of any NIST committees that may be formed requiring the input of a physician to determine internal NIST policy. As requested, serve as subject matter expert to NIST community on other health issues. Ability to interpret electrocardiograms, chest x-rays and laboratory tests. Experience/skill in the use of a variety of common medical instruments/equipment, such as EKG equipment and audiometer. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Doctor of Medicine from a U.S. or Canadian medical school listed as approved by the Council of Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association in the list published for the year of the applicant's graduation OR Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a medical school other than covered above (including foreign schools) provided that the physician's medical education and the medical knowledge acquired here from are substantially comparable and equivalent to that of graduates of approved medical schools as described above. Board Certification in Internal, Occupational, Emergency, or Preventive Medicine. Possess and maintain permanent and full or unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland for the duration of the contract. Minimum one (1) year within the last 2 years experience, post-residency or fellowship, in clinical medicine Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to obtain Department of Transportation certification to perform Commercial Driver's License medical examinations within 60 days of employment Ability to assess employee medical complaints, advise as to whether action is needed and to make recommendations in time-off-from work and injury compensation cases. Experience/skills in the use of a variety of common medical instruments/equipment, such as EKG equipment and audiometer.
