Job Description
Supervise and manage a team of medical coders, ensuring high standards of coding accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry regulations. Lead audits of coded medical records, providing detailed feedback and coaching to medical coders and physicians to improve accuracy and adherence to coding guidelines. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to medical coding and billing. Oversee and monitor coding workflows to ensure timely completion of tasks, while tracking and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) to maintain high levels of efficiency, accuracy, and productivity. Train and mentor medical coding staff to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Implement performance improvement initiatives and lead projects to enhance coding accuracy and productivity.
Responsibilities
+ Lead audits of coded medical records and provide detailed feedback and coaching to medical coders and physicians.
+ Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to medical coding and billing.
+ Oversee and monitor coding workflows to ensure timely task completion, tracking KPIs to maintain high levels of efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.
+ Train and mentor medical coding staff to foster continuous learning and improvement.
+ Implement performance improvement initiatives and lead projects to enhance coding accuracy and productivity.
+ Prepare MIPS reports and track performance.
+ Review, analyze, and input clinic claim codes (ICD-9/ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT) based on EMR records, ensuring proper modifiers and documentation.
+ Educate and consult with physicians and nursing staff on coding practices, ensuring accurate clinical documentation.
+ Stay current with updates on medical treatments, procedures, diagnosis classifications, payer updates, and communicate relevant information.
+ Use coding manuals and software to ensure proper code selection and compliance with industry standards.
+ Enter coded data into EHR or practice management systems for billing accuracy and maintain organized coding files.
+ Collaborate with the billing department to ensure accurate insurance claims submission, address discrepancies, and resolve coding errors.
+ Resubmit denied claims after adjustments, assist with audits, and maintain strong knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes.
+ Maintain NDC updates, NCCN guidelines, and work with A/R and billing teams to resolve claim rejections and troubleshoot billing issues.
Essential Skills
+ Certified through RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CCS, AAPC, or equivalent certification. RHIT highly preferred.
+ Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience (either as a lead or supervisor) managing medical coding and billing teams.
+ 5+ years of coding experience, including 2+ years of experience in multispecialty coding.
+ Proven ability to lead audits of coded medical records and provide actionable feedback to both physicians and coders.

+ Strong supervisory skills.
+ Expertise in medical coding and auditing.
Work Environment
100% in office role. This is a working supervisor role, so you will be coding 50% of the time and leading the team the other 50%. The work schedule is Monday to Friday with some flexibility with hours. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.37 - $47.59/hr.
