Job Description:

Shift Details: 40 hours/week, Full time. Clinic hours are Monday- Friday 7:00am-4:00pm. Scheduled shifts will be Monday- Friday 7:15am- 4:00pm.

Unit/Location: Avenues Orthopedics Neuro-Spine Surgery

Additional Details:

This position is for Neuro-Spine surgery which is very busy due to how complex the cases and administrative work can be. We are looking for someone who can work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to the demands of both clinical days and administrative days.

Clinical Days- Typical MA duties in addition but not limited to the following tasks:

Scheduling follow-up/post-op/pre-ops visits, as well as surgeries if able to.Go over surgery packets/checklist for upcoming/scheduled surgeries. Helping to change post-op dressing, etcAssisting with ordering imaging, physical therapy, labs, coordinating patient care etc.

Administrative Days:

Surgery prior authorizations (submitting, checking status, etc.)Scheduling surgeriesEntering surgeries into EMR & I-queue, confirming surgery start times, relaying to reps cases & confirming cases with reps and co-surgeonScrubbing the schedule for next few clinical days, entering in imaging orders if needed for upcoming clinics, etc. Responding to messages/ calls/ faxes. Completing FMLA paperworkScanning/uploading patient paperwork, records/reports, etc. from outside facilities into EMR.Working referral que, sending out intake questions for potential patients to complete, sending referrals out, completing referrals.Assisting with managing provider’s schedule, i.e. meeting, appointments, time off, etc.

As a Medical Assistant at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team, ensuring our patients receive the best care by:   

Providing Patient Care: Under the direction of the Clinician, providing care to patients by assisting the provider to gather information that is relative to the patient’s visit and condition.  

Effective Communication: Communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions. 

Team Collaboration: Working with cross functional teams to collaborate on patient care.  Attention to detail and follow-through are key components in helping to provide the care that is needed.   

 

Minimum Qualifications  

Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program (certification must be provided upon hire) 

Or at least one year of Medical Assistant experience (verified upon hire) 

Or current RN/LPN license to practice nursing in the state 

Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Must be obtained prior to start date 

Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry. 

Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction. 

Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers. 

Utah Only: If certified with less than one year of MA experience, caregivers may attend a yearlong MA residency program 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting. 

Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.  

Current national MA certification from one of the following national MA certifications or registrations: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA 

Physical Requirements

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$19.20 - $27.35
