Job Summary
The Medical Assistant II provides clinical support and assists general, trauma, and plastic surgeons in the Churchill Surgery Clinic in Boston, MA. Working under general supervision of the Nurse Coordinator, the Medical Assistant II performs direct patient duties, maintenance of the clinical environment of care, effectively interacts with other staff and departments and assists new medical assistant staff and externs. The Medical Assistant II is expected to provide outstanding patient service and assistance and to meet all MGH standards of service.
Qualifications
Direct patient flow in outpatient practice facility, managing flow of charts between reception area and clinical examination area and escorting patients from waiting area to clinical examination area and pre-check out.Place patients in exam rooms; take vital signs as indicated by surgeon.Turnover exam rooms in preparation for next patient ensuring a clean, safe and well-prepared environment.Prepare and transport all patient specimens to appropriate clinical departments and/or courier/drop-offs.Bag soiled linen and red bag waste for pick up.Order all medical and surgical disposable supplies, sutures and solutions as well as all pharmaceutical and dermaceutical supplies.Attend meetings as required to meet organizational requirements and as determined by manager.Inventory examination rooms (and confirm central inventory) ensuring adequate supplies on hand.Stock examination rooms with medical supplies, replenishing as necessary to maintain specified par levels.Provide orientation and guidance to Medical Assistants; provide information and assistance with completing job tasks to all Medical Assistant colleagues.Complete daily MA assignment to meet the needs of the provider’s schedules.Be the resource for MA I staff related to clinical questions, implementation of new processes and procedures, etc.Perform and/or assist providers in office procedures, working effectively with the provider and patient, to include:Set up examination rooms for minor surgical procedures (excisions, I & D, biopsies, etc).Prepare required equipment for procedures.Prepare patients for procedures and assist in procedure as required.Clean procedure rooms and processing and suction units.
