As a Medical Assistant on this team you are responsible for overseeing and participating in day-to-day clinical care of patients under remote supervision. This position assists in the care of the patient by following through on completion of provider orders and answering patient calls for medication refill orders, and approved results reporting. Additionally, may be responsible for performing over the phone triage. Individuals in this function typically have certification. May also be responsible for overseeing and participating in day-to-day clinical support care of patients. They will be part of a market-wide team that manages clinical support items to minimize in-basket and task burden on our clinicians and improve one-call resolution for our patients.


Primary Responsibilities:

Works on simple tasks using established procedures and protocols Basic tasks completed without review by others Supervision/guidance required for higher level tasks Monitor and manage assigned pool/work queues ensuring timely completion of necessary clinical support needs (e.g., medication refill requests) Create and communicate TE’s/Messages across teams (e.g., central scheduling, clinical staff, providers) as necessary Translate communicated information into concise and accurate written documentation. Use approved “dotphrases” in accordance with job function/role. Document and send communications/messages in EHR/MyChart Send and receive tasks to provider office to assist patient with access to medical care Answers incoming calls from patients or healthcare related entities (number based on metrics) either directly or through warm transfer, resolving moderate to complex issues in a timely manner Assist with patient care related tasks related to medication refills, relaying diagnostic results, “in-basket” management, “trigger word” screening by utilizing approved protocols and processes Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Optum’s commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care, and concern with every internal and external customer Exhibit multitasking skills, utilizing double monitors for data entry, phone etiquette, and use of resources while maintaining proper guidelines Attends required trainings/meeting (ex. Huddles) to stay current on policies and growth

Required Qualifications:

High school graduate or GED Completion of a Medical Assistant program, or Military Medic program  1+ years of experience in an ambulatory care setting Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams


Preferred Qualifications:

Call Center experience Experience with Epic EMR/EHR System Bilingual - Spanish
