Position Summary:  Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.  

Performs common testing procedures and reports test results.Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshootingPerforms quality control testing.Maintains supplies and/or inventory needed for performance of testsCalibrates and assesses the accuracy of laboratory equipmentPerforms phlebotomy using age specific techniquesRecognizes normal, abnormal or unexpected results, errors and problems with patient test resultsObserves principles of data security/patient confidentialityAssists the with outpatients and training of new lab assistantsAssists in training of new technicians and/or technologists with instructions from a technologist or laboratory managerTo perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.Every effort has been made to make this job description as complete as possible. Minimum EducationAssociate’s degree in medical laboratory scienceOR Associate’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological scienceOR Associate’s degree in another discipline with documented chemistry and biology hours that satisfy CLIA requirements for high complexity testing personnel.ORHave previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under § 493.1489;(4) On or before April 24, 1995 be a high school graduate or equivalent and have either -(i) Graduated from a medical laboratory or clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by ABHES, CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS; or(ii) Successfully completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).Required SkillsCertification/LicenseASCP, HEW, or equivalent certified Medical Laboratory Technician required within one year from date of hire.Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
