Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 4 to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The team provides material process development and fabrication laboratory testing services to support active programs and develop new technologies for next generation programs. This position will be located on-site in El Segundo, CA.

Position Overview: 

The position is for hands-on support in the fabrication, layup, and coating of advanced composites, including autoclave curing and out-of-autoclave curing material systems. The qualified candidate will work to complete laboratory work orders within a specified schedule and will also work with team leads and engineering to meet all goals and objectives within a given statement of work (SOW). The qualified candidate will have experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, work orders, and/or specifications in the execution of SOW. The ideal candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and must have experience in identifying risks within a given SOW. The qualified candidate may also possess several desirable skills such as: pervious experience operating ovens and autoclaves, hand tools including drills, routers, and saws, and previous experience operating high precision manufacturing processes including computer interface controls and light-duty bench or floor type machine tools.

Basic Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years additional education and/or related experience.Experience in aerospace composite fabrication, including flat panel and sandwich panel layup.Experience in ASTM test specimen fabrication (flatwise tension, lap shears, etc.).Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.Experience working in a team setting to complete SOW within a set scheduleMust have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior laboratory / R&D / prototype experience is preferred.Experience operating ovens and autoclaves.Experience in paste bonding / sealant and coatings application.Experience operating forklifts and other heavy machinery.

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
