Mechanical Professional Engineer – Mining

Our client, a leading provider of global mine contracting services is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. The role is based in their Vaughan, Ontario office. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for conceptualizing, planning, coordinating, and executing parts of the projects that require the application of advanced technical knowledge and mechanical engineering experience. In this role you will also be required to direct, guide, and review the work of other team members, as well as provide advice and assistance to a multi-disciplinary workforce.
Benefits:hybrid work arrangementfull benefits plussalary ranging from110 to 120 K base per yearResponsibilities:Plan, manage, and coordinate the mechanical engineering activities on large and technically complex portions of projects. Oversee the sizing, selection, layout, and specification of mechanical/process equipment.Perform and/or review calculations. Work closely with peers, project teams, other discipline leads, clients, and technical managers to deliver on time, fit for purpose designs. Facilitate inter-discipline co-ordination during the development and implementation of design.Ensure all project scope items are addressed, and quality objectives met while ensuring adherence to project schedules and budgets.Oversee the mechanical document checking and design verification in accordance with company and project procedures. Evaluate and review all documentation and deliverables such as mechanical and piping calculations, drawings, etc. Assess the conceptual equipment layouts and general arrangement drawings.Develop plans, evaluating and recommending solutions for difficult problems. Interface with all other engineering team members to support projects. Delegate workload to subordinates, determine priorities, provide advice and assistance as required. Develop technical expertise of assigned staff and assisting personnel in other disciplines in achieving objectives. Prepare proposals, contract design drawings and calculations, and other engineering documentation. Approve and issue drawings and other engineering documents.Coach, train, and mentor Engineers, Designers, and Drafters. The Ideal Candidate:Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in mechanical engineering.P.Eng. Designation. 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience on heavy industry projects. Experience on underground mining projects is an asset. Experience in the design, specification, and layout of process systems and plants, including materials handling equipment, conveyor system, pumping and piping, industrial ventilation.Relevant experience with other mechanical systems such as for mine hoisting and conveyance would be an asset. Working knowledge of FEA analysis and software such as, Autocad Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Caesar, or SolidWorks would be an asset.Experience with conducting HAZOPS, Root Cause Failure Analysis of industrial process systems, equipment and piping is an asset. Strong understanding of Engineering standards, codes, regulations and guidelines.Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working directly with designers in a 3D model environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
