Position summary: This position is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and managing the flow of material and team members in the Mechanical Lab. This includes allocation of the lab’s resources to best fit the needs of the company. This role also serves as a liaison (technical and administrative) to all other departments within the company. Essential functions and responsibilities: • Work with Mechanical Lab Supervisor(s) to prioritize daily work and determine the most efficient and effective way to complete tests, assigning jobs accordingly. • Serve as a technical arm of the department to support requests from both inside and outside of the company. • Determine conformance of the material to specified requirements, or report observed results when requested for research and development purposes only. Prepare and review reports accordingly. • Coordinate the training of personnel within the lab. • Communicate with customers, as needed, regarding nonconformances, scope of work issues/questions or unexpected analytical results. • Coordinate internal peer review of all test reports and track KPI benchmarks. • Participate in the design and writing of new test procedures. Once deemed acceptable, implement and train team members on new procedure. • Ensure that utilized specification revisions are current, implementing changes if needed. • Perform and participate in performance reviews of lab personnel. • Make recommendations for equipment purchases. • Review order/customer requirements to determine feasibility/capability of testing. • Perform other duties as needed. Steel-toed boots are preferred. Work days and shifts: • Shifts may vary. • Incumbent may need to work outside core operating hours as requested. Education/Certification(s)/License(s) required: • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field (may be substituted with 10 years of experience) Experience/Other required: • Proficiency as a Mechanical Lab Technician. • Ten or more years of prior experience in mechanical testing • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
