Your Role:

Join Tetra Tech to make a real difference. As a Mechanical Engineering Department Lead, you will guide mechanical engineering efforts across a diverse portfolio of Commercial, Education, Government, Healthcare, and Hospitality projects. Your expertise will shape sustainable mechanical systems, ensuring design quality, compliance, and technical excellence. You will have the opportunity to mentor engineers, lead project execution, and optimize operational efficiency while playing a pivotal role in business growth and client relationships.

 

Lead and manage mechanical engineering projects from early concept to construction completion. Oversee the design and planning of sustainable mechanical systems for diverse building types. Act as Engineer of Record, ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and client expectations. Lead technical communication on MEP topics with clients, architects, and stakeholders. Develop and implement project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation strategies. Provide mentorship and technical leadership, guiding junior engineers and fostering professional growth. Support business development efforts, contributing to proposals and client relationship management. Ensure adherence to internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards. Maintain a high degree of technical expertise, staying up to date with advancements in HVAC and mechanical engineering. Work in a safe manner at all times, reporting all health and safety incidents and concerns.

 

Qualifications:

15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and HVAC system design. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineering (PE) license required. Extensive experience in the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. Proficiency in REVIT, AutoCAD, Trane Trace, IES, and MS Office for complex calculations and designs. Strong knowledge of Building and Mechanical Codes and Standards. LEED AP BD+C accreditation and WELL Certification preferred. Strong ability to mentor junior staff, delegate tasks, and ensure technical quality.

Work Environment & Location:

This position offers a hybrid-remote work environment, requiring candidates to be located in Seattle and eligible to work in the U.S.. Occasional on-site project meetings may be required to facilitate collaboration.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $175,000 (depending on experience)
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the compensation scale for this role. Actual salaries will be determined based on location, experience, responsibilities, and qualifications. This salary range is just one component of Tetra Tech’s total compensation package, which includes benefits, professional development opportunities, and additional incentives.
