Mechanical Engineer - Research
Meta
**Summary:**
At Meta Reality Labs Research, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to design, build, and test future consumer AR experiences. As part of our team, you will develop state of the art mechanical structures, mechanisms, and solutions for next generation research devices. You will become part of a team chartered with the exploration of new concepts through analytical modeling and fast iterative prototyping. A wide range of approaches will be explored combining electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software techniques. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, drive a concept into a prototype, and can envision how a prototype could transition into a high-volume consumer product. The individual should demonstrate the experience to continuously develop personal knowledge and expertise in new technology for AR display, sensing systems, process design, manufacturing, and scalability.
**Required Skills:**
Mechanical Engineer - Research Responsibilities:
1. Mechanical background with proven working knowledge of developing consumer products, high precision alignment process development of optical systems.
2. Apply rigorous engineering to model, build, test, and refine prototypes.
3. Participate on a research team providing advice/guidance/insights to your peers in your area(s) of expertise
4. Transform ambiguous requests and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions
5. Contribute to FMEA, failure analysis, tolerance analysis, gauge R&R, and the GD&T activities supporting product and prototyping development.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
Minimum Qualifications:
6. BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
7. 8+ years of experience working on complex ME designs in collaborative, cross functional environments
8. Experience in 3D design modeling (SolidWorks or NX) and physical prototyping
9. Experience working with international equipment vendors and international contract manufacturers.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Preferred Qualifications:
10. Experience with mass production of systems requiring variety of manufacturing processes: soft goods, active optical alignment, multishot/insert molding, machining.
11. Experience with one of more of the following: precision design and measurement (GD&T, CMM, OMM ), elastomeric materials and their manufacturing limitations, FEA
12. Familiarity with VR/AR systems or wearable technologies
13. Experience designing haptics devices, mechanisms and actuators into novel customer experiences
14. Experience demonstrating creative problem solving towards novel technology development.
15. Experience with component/system level modeling and optimization DOE and DFSS
16. 6+ years experience working on high-volume consumer products
**Public Compensation:**
$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
