Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Utilities & Energy Management, Mechanical Engineer provides campus-wide consultation, coordination, and professional leadership in the planning, developing, and implementing construction and/or repair programs within the broad area of engineering specialty. Serves as project engineer on engineering design projects; sets project parameters, evaluates compliance with project and engineering standards, and approves final designs and installations. Oversees, reviews, guides, and approves the work of external engineering design and planning consultants; ensures that engineering designs are consistent with contract specifications and all relevant regulations and engineering standards. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Must have a valid US driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.

This Position requires a Motor Vehicle Background Check.


Required Education and Experience 
* Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program.

* At least five (5) years of directly related experience in leading the planning, development, and implementation of construction and/or repair programs.

* Demonstrated engineering project management experience.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities
*Advanced knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a broad specialty area.
*Advanced knowledge and understanding of building HVAC systems and central campus utilities, especially central chilled water and heating plants.
*Knowledge and understanding of all relevant Federal and PA state laws, regulations, and operating guidelines.
*Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
*Ability to provide technical leadership and project management to engineering projects of high complexity and broad-ranging scope.
*Ability to adapt and modify engineering techniques and develop original model concepts within professional expertise.
*Ability to manage and coordinate the work of technical consultants and/or contractors.
*Ability to develop and manage project budgets and track project costs using computer spreadsheet techniques.
*Knowledge and understanding of allied disciplines and ability to coordinate interdisciplinary teams.
*Ability to analyze complex engineering problems and devise creative and effective solutions.
*Working knowledge of building automation controls, sequences, and network infrastructure.

Preferred
*Supervisory experience preferred.

* Experience in higher education setting.
