Mechanical Engineer
Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will design or redesign cost-effective components, equipment, and systems using engineering standards and computer-aided design, applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles. This role involves preparing engineering drawings, processing engineering change orders, and providing technical support across departments and to customers. Responsibilities + Design or redesign cost-effective components, equipment, and systems using engineering standards and computer-aided design, applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles. + Prepare engineering drawings for components, assemblies, and plant layouts, and check drawings prepared by less experienced team members. + Process engineering change orders/requests and complete them by assigned due dates. + Prepare bills of materials and process routings in MRP/ERP systems. + Analyze and approve supplier or subcontractor designs, providing specific feedback on whether the product/service meets specification requirements. + Analyze commercially available components to determine their suitability for incorporation into equipment. + Review and disposition component non-conformances. + Provide technical support for company products throughout their life cycles. + Mentor and train less experienced members of the Engineering team. + Prepare and update standards and procedures. + Manage job projects/orders from receipt of order to shipment, including preparing Gantt charts. + Stay current on codes and requirements by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. + Ensure consistency and integrity of all major equipment in accordance with codes and specifications. + Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with codes and legal regulations. + Occasionally travel (<10%) to supplier facilities and customers. Essential Skills + 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering. + Strong mechanical aptitude with a focus on assembly and machine design. + Proficiency in Inventor, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks. + Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles. + Mechanical aptitude and understanding of how shafts and bearings work together. + Ability to prepare and check engineering drawings and process engineering change orders. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in food processing is preferred but not required. + Experience in project management is a plus. + Ability to mentor and train less experienced team members. + Experience in rebuilding and upgrading existing machines. Work Environment You will join a team of six, reporting directly to the team leader. The work involves designing on existing machines, focusing on rebuilds and upgrades rather than creating new designs from scratch. The environment is interactive and communicative, with cross-functional team capabilities. All machining and assembly/disassembly are done on-site, while fabrication is outsourced. This role offers the potential for career growth into management positions in the future. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
