Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** GENERAL PURPOSE: Designs and develops mechanical systems and components, working under the guidance of senior engineers. Utilizes CAD software for design, collaborates on projects, and assists with testing and documentation. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** + Develops conceptual and detailed designs of mechanical parts and assemblies based on project requirements. + Creates and optimizes mechanical systems and specialized components. Prepare technical drawings in compliance with industry standards. + Uses CAD software to design, collaborate on projects, and ensure products meet specifications. + Creates, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical components related to associated projects. + Prints three-dimensional (3-D) parts for end users in support of research or other assigned projects. + Onboards and trains new engineers. Delegates tasks and responsibilities to team members based on skill sets. Explains engineering concepts to trainees and users of the instrumentation core. Other duties as assigned. **MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE** + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar and 1 year of relevant experience required + Or equivalent combination of education and experience **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES** + Proficient in using specialized tools and equipment, reading technical drawings, and ensuring the safe operation of mechanical systems. Required + Expertise in the following Software applications: CAD, CNC and 3D programming. Use of the CNC router use including, CNC programing with computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software and V-Carve, machine maintenance. Required + Knowledge of Metallurgy to choose materials based on mechanical and chemical properties. Required + Ability to take responsibility for multiple projects in a complex granting structure and show initiative in making suggestions and decisions required + Ability to work independently, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, detail-oriented, and ability to work well in a team environment required + Solidworks 3D computer aid design (CAD) software, including the integration of solid models and 3D scanned models. 3D printer maintenance, troubleshooting and rebuilding, 3D scanning to printing process, to create subject specific 3D parts.
