Position Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer within the Product Development department at Airedale by Modine, as part of the VAVE team (Value Analysis and Value Engineering). This is a fast growing team within the core design department at Airedale, looking at development across all different product ranges, making it an excellent team in which to begin a career at Airedale. This specific opening is centred around the “Product Transfer”, as the VAVE team manage technical developments to Airedale’s product portfolio following release to the market, including the development of processes used during the design and build stage. This can include improvements to the initial design for performance benefits, the implementation of cost down initiatives, or responses to quality issues.

Key Responsibilities This vacancy will involve working closely with Engineers across many of Airedales plants globally, along with the Project Engineering team based in Leeds, with the aim of ensuring seamless manufacturing regardless of build location. Liaising with teams from alternative manufacturing plants to offer any technical support required during the manufacturing process, and taking on board any feedback they have to offer on the design of the units. Creating/providing CAD information to alternative plants, frequently amending existing CAD data to provide additional information where required. Packaging and distributing Bills of Material (BoMs) to various manufacturing plants. Applying fundamental principles of thermodynamics and heat transfer into design work. Working with the manufacturing team to identify and implement improvements to both the product design and production processes. Collaborating with the Procurement Team to implement cost effective components into products. Designing out product quality concerns alongside the Quality Team, minimising lifecycle costs. Required Education & Qualifications A degree-level qualification in an Engineering discipline or relevant science based subject. A strong understanding of thermofluids/thermodynamics, especially refrigeration, will be advantageous. Excellent inter-personal skills at all levels - this will be pivotal to your success in the role, as it involves liaising with colleagues from teams around the world and external suppliers daily. Experience working with CAD software (ideally including SolidEdge and AutoCAD). Good theoretical and practical understanding of mechanical engineering principles. Good theoretical and practical understanding of manufacturing engineering and processes. Proficient with MS Office software. The ability to self-manage and work independently, managing projects to completion
