Aplin has partnered with a leader in the defence industry to add a Mechanical Engineer to their team in Dartmouth, NS. This engineering team manages a range of specialized capabilities, delivering highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in critical and demanding environments to meet customer needs.
The Mechanical Engineering team is responsible for the design, development, testing, and documentation of mechanical assemblies. This includes new development, change orders, process improvements, and documentation, supporting designs through the concept, development, and production stages of the system life cycle.
Responsibilities:Develop mechanical designs ensuring compliance with requirements across all operating environments through analysis and testingCreate, review, and approve CAD models, assemblies, and associated drawings and BOMs per applicable standardsCreate, review, and approve documentation required to satisfy the project planDevelop and conduct design verification tests to ensure product qualificationDevelop technical specifications and acceptance testing criteria for sub-contracted workCollaborate with the project team to deliver solutions that meet customer needs, and requirements, and adhere to cost, quality, and schedule expectationsWork with manufacturing and production departments to transition designs into productionSupport cost estimation activitiesEnsure mechanical engineering activities are performed by company processesOccasional travel within Canada, the US, or overseas may be requiredRole Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical EngineeringSelf-motivated, adaptable, and detail-orientedStrong communication skills and a positive attitudeAbility to work on Canadian Controlled Goods and US ITAR-controlled articlesCandidate must be capable of acquiring NATO Reliability and Secret security clearanceQualifications:2+ years of experience developing mechanical systems, P.Eng or working towards registration as a Professional EngineerExperience designing components using various fabrication methods (machining, injection moulding, welding, forming, etc.)Experience in the marine and defence sectorsExperience developing and running environmental qualification testingKnowledge of design and qualification to military standardsTechnical management of suppliers, including development of technical specifications and acceptance criteriaExperience in developing or improving manufacturing processes and transitioning products from design to production2+ years of experience using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD toolsExperience with simulation/FEA toolsAbility to collaborate with and understand the perspectives of other engineering disciplinesStrong problem-solving skills, with the ability to document complex issues, gather data, and establish conclusions through direct analysis or deductive reasoningAble to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-driven environment
