Mechanical Engineer

The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural and specialty design services for a wide variety of buildings that include public, municipal, private, and Federal project types across the region and globally. With a team of experienced staff in specific market sectors such as Healthcare, Science and Technology, Data Centers, Higher Education, Federal, Transportation, Water, and Resources facilities, we provide engineering excellence for our clients. We have an industry leading focus on sustainable design and energy conservation.

The HDR BES group in New Jersey is looking for aMechanical Engineerto join our team.

Primary Responsibilities

Support the work of the mechanical design team throughout all project phases ranging from feasibility studies, programming, conceptual design, schematic design, construction documents, construction administration, commissioning, and project close-outIs responsible to coordinate workload to complete project assignments and deliverables on scheduleParticipate inwork sessions at project site in conjunction with other disciplines, owners, contractors, and other project stakeholdersWrite and edit mechanical specifications to fit project requirementsUnderstand fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for different applicationsAbility to perform psychrometric calculations for analyzing and selecting HVAC systems and equipmentDevelop sections and elevations for complex ductwork and piping areasDevelop air and water flow diagramsCoordinate HVAC and/or plumbing system control requirements and intended modes of operation with controls engineers to develop control diagrams, point lists, and sequences of operationReview mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplinesPerform field work and verification of existing conditions where requiredProvide construction administration support by reviewing mechanical and/or plumbing submittals and answering RFIsVisit project sites as requested or as contractually required to monitor construction progress and prepare field observation reports

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or closely related engineering disciplineMinimum 4 years of experience in HVAC and/or plumbing systems designPE licenseUnderstanding of applicable design codes and specification requirementsExcellent organizational and communication skillsTake ownership of assignments and work both independently and as part of a large project teamStrongly motivated, well organized, and showing professional initiativeFocused on client outcomesAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing complex and large-scale healthcare, laboratory, and/or mission critical data center facilitiesProficiency in Revit and Microsoft OfficeExperience using load calculation software, energy modeling software, and manufacturer equipment selection software
