Under general supervision, the dock master will be responsible for coordinating the daily vendor and general delivery traffic flow into and out of the loading dock located on (West Redwood & Arch Street). They will assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the loading dock area. Also this position will transport supplies and material between the Main and Mid-Town campuses.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Effective communication with vendor regarding where to park, which entrance to use for the proper delivery of the goods or services, grant access to the building when and where necessary.Must be able to monitor, control, and queue vendors who are staged, in waiting, for an open delivery bay or space to unload.Provide directions for internal deliveries and contractor services. Also, when necessary, assist in contacting persons whom are receiving those deliveries or services.Coordinating access to the loading dock and dock bays for construction, catering and any other special deliveries.Assists in maintaining required records, reports, and miscellaneous information as required, in accordance with departmental and hospital procedures.When necessary, coordinate with the Security dept, local law enforcement, ambulances, and the fire department.Maintains a clean, safe and orderly work environment in accordance with departmental procedures and UMMS safe work practices.Maintains established hospital and department policies and procedures, objectives, regarding quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. QualificationsEducation and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.Five years prior experience preferred, or proven success in a related field.Valid Driver’s license and a clean driving record.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of receiving, loading dock practices, and traffic coordination preferred. Proficient in the use of a powered pallet jack, manual jack, hand truck, etc.Ability to read and follow instructions accurately, timely and effectively.Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to work with management, contractors, drivers, and various hospital and administrative staff. Strong communication skills are a must.Proficient ability to recognize shipping pictograms for hazardous or regulated materials. Knowledge of the associated precautions, the ability to locate and understand Safety Data Sheets.Must be able to learn the proper procedures and coordinate with the correct support services in the event of a spill or incident.Prolonged standing and walking. Must be willing and able to work during inclement weather, and heat.
