**Responsibilities:**
GENERAL PURPOSE
Manages the activities of one or more materials supply operational areas. Ensures efficient delivery of services. Acts as liaison with service users for an effective overall operation. Delegates authority and responsibility to maintain control of departmental functions. Formulates operational and capital budgets, ensuring management standards for cost awareness and budget control are maintained. Hires, evaluates performance, determines disciplinary actions, and makes recommendation for personnel actions.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
+ Manages and directs one or more of the following activities: Transportation Department, delivery of freight, purchase, receipt and inventory control of supplies, as well as their effective level of services.
+ Formulates department organization and develops and recommends policies and procedures.
+ Interprets Hospital and University Policy to staff.
+ Develops objectives and goals in conjunction with the Manager as a tool in implementing programs.
+ Delegates authority and responsibility to maintain control of department functions.
+ Evaluates services provided through the formulation of controls, statistical surveys and communications with user departments.
+ Establishes working relationship through positive communication and follow-up with nursing staff, medical staff, and user departments.
+ Meets with department heads and/or supervisors to review procedures and investigate problems.
+ Acts as a liaison with the Central Laundry in communicating problems, improving services, and securing linen supplies.
+ Develops and proposes more effective and efficient methods for timely transport of patients, distribution of supplies, flow of traffic patterns, and enhancement of patient relations.
+ Acts as a consultant to nursing staff in the evaluation of equipment needs.
+ Hires or makes recommendations for hiring according to the University of Rochester Affirmative Action plan and goals.
+ Evaluates performances, determines disciplinary action, recommends promotions and/or salary adjustments, and performs other related personnel actions.
+ Formulates operational and capital budgets, ensures management standards for cost awareness and budget control are maintained.
+ Evaluates, makes recommendations, and approves the purchase of equipment and supplies. Conducts inventory of stock.
+ Chairs committees or represents department as assigned by the Manager.
Other duties as assigned.
**MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
+ Bachelor's degree and 2 years of supervisory experience required
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience
