Materials Manager

Position: Materials Manager

Overview: As the Materials Manager, you will lead the Supply Chain function, overseeing all aspects of procurement, planning, inventory management, and logistics. Your role will involve developing and implementing commodity strategies and sourcing decisions to meet business supply requirements while ensuring compliance with regulations and company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy: Direct the Supply Chain function, encompassing procurement, estimating, planning, inventory management, shipping/receiving, logistics, and SIOP (Sales, Inventory, Operations Planning). Develop and execute commodity strategies and sourcing decisions to optimize the supply chain.Inventory & KPI Management: Create and implement inventory reduction strategies. Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to working capital and inventory control, striving for continuous improvement.Procurement & Compliance: Develop and execute procurement strategies, identify cost-saving opportunities, and manage budgets. Ensure all procurement activities comply with relevant domestic and international laws and regulations.Risk Management: Mitigate supply risk through effective contingency planning, assessing supplier capabilities, disaster preparedness, and evaluating financial stability.Supplier Development: Enhance supplier and supply base capabilities. Track and forecast global market trends and geopolitical factors impacting the supply chain.Supplier Selection & Contracting: Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, solicit and review bids, and negotiate and award contracts. Maintain strong vendor relationships and oversee payment approvals.Continuous Improvement: Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain, implementing performance measures and fostering a culture of excellence.Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of procurement professionals, including staff selection, performance management, development, and training, to ensure alignment with business goals.Cost Control: Achieve year-over-year reductions in Purchase Price Variance (PPV) and Purchase Cost Variance (PCV).

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.Experience: Minimum of 10 years in materials/purchasing and supply chain leadership for manufactured and machined products.Skills:Proficiency in strategic sourcing and the development of sourcing strategies.Managerial experience with vendors, buyers, and Supply Chain Specialists.Expertise in inventory management, contract negotiations, demand forecasting, and operations planning.Proven ability to drive financial and operational performance through effective procurement strategies.Track record of leading transformational change and improving KPI initiatives.Experience with SAP ERP systems preferred.In-depth knowledge of contracts, compliance, and procurement laws (domestic and international).Hands-on experience in vendor selection, negotiation, and sourcing at a leadership level.Strong project management, negotiation, and communication skills.High energy, entrepreneurial spirit, and a decisive, confident approach.

For Connecticut, the estimated base salary range for this position is $121,023 to $153,545.  The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Silgan, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions.
