About the position:
The Materials & Corrosion Engineer is part of the Materials, Equipment, and Quality team within Chevron’s ENGINE Center and is responsible for providing metallurgy, corrosion, failure analysis, welding, coatings, non-metallics and cathodic protection consulting services to Chevron Downstream Business Units and Capital Projects, including joint venture refineries and Chevron Lummus Global (CLG)., This role helps to ensure reliability and integrity of piping, equipment, structures, and pipelines across Chevron assets.
Key responsibilities:
+ Work collaboratively with SMEs at CTC and within the ENGINE to develop and deploy materials, corrosion, coatings and welding solutions.
+ Make fit-for-purpose materials selections for new and replacement piping and equipment.
+ Predict corrosion rates in upstream production environments using corrosion modeling tools.
+ Review and analyze corrosion monitoring and inhibition data to optimize corrosion control program.
+ Review welding procedures and support qualification of welding procedures. Troubleshoot welding fabrication issues.
+ Make coating systems selections and review coatings application procedures.
+ Support metallurgical failure analysis of piping and equipment.
+ Provide technical input to support damage mechanism identification, corrosion assessments, inspection plans.
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Corrosion, Materials Engineering, or related engineering discipline from a recognized (AICTE) university.
+ Skilled competency level in downstream metallurgy and corrosion, including high temperature damage mechanisms.
+ Skilled competency level in welding, coatings and non-metallics
+ Fundamental knowledge of relevant technical codes and standards (NACE MR0103, API 571, ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, ASME BPV Sec VIII, ASME Sec IX, ASME PCC-2)
+ Fundamental competency level in fixed equipment (piping, equipment, pipelines, heat exchangers, tanks) integrity management.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 10+ years corrosion and materials engineering experience, with 7+ years in the downstream oil and gas industry.
+ Master's degree in Corrosion, Metallurgy or Materials Engineering
+ Hands-on, field experience at a downstream operating facility
+ NACE Specialist/Technologist certification in materials selection or corrosion control.
+ Professional Engineering registration
+ Experience with data analytics and digital tools
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
