AIR is currently seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated  Markets and Trade Independent Consultant to provide support to the USAID-funded Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) project’s Data, Learning, and Communications Hub’s team. This is a remote position.

 

We are on the lookout for a Markets and Trade Independent Consultant who possesses deep knowledge and hands-on experience with the role markets and trade impact food security around the world. The primary objective of this role is to provide specialized expertise in markets and trade to enhance the Hub's analyses and operational capabilities in addressing acute food insecurity issues. This is a flexible consulting position and estimated hours will be determined at the time of contract. AIR will contract directly with the Independent Consultants under a consulting purchase order agreement.

Responsibilities

Scope of work includes:

 Market Analysis:Conduct in-depth analyses of markets and trade affecting food security.Assist with new domains on market functionality, including mapping and analysis of trade routes and market stability.Data Support:Identify and manage market-related data sets, ensuring they are effectively used in analyses and decision-making.Develop tools and methods to interpret market data and integrate them into existing frameworks.Consultative Support:Provide insights and guidance on market trends and their implications for food security.Serve as a part-time resource for specific market and trade queries and tasks as needed.Knowledge Sharing:Produce reports and insights that can help inform broader team strategies.Share knowledge through briefings, written reports, and presentations to both internal and external audiences.Collaboration:Work closely with the FEWS NET team to ensure holistic analyses and products.Engage with external stakeholders, including investors, governments, and NGOs, to stay informed on market trends and gather additional insights. Qualifications

Qualifications for this role include the following:

Masters Degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience or Bachelor's Degree in a related field with a minimum 6 years of experience. Substantial USAID FEWS NET experience with the analysis and management of data relevant to agroclimatology and acute food insecurity,Proven experience in market and trade analysis with a focus on acute food security.Experience with Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) and the incorporation of market and trade analysis into IPC compatible integrated reporting.Ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights.Strong communication and presentation skills.Experience working in a consultative or advisory capacity is preferred but not required.
