Structural Position The Ports & Terminals Practice (P&T) is a global capability team within the Transport and Logistics Business Unit. Within the Hatch global response network, we work closely with all sectors where Hatch have clients with P&T needs, be it public clients or Mining, Metals or Energy. The P&T practice in Western Canada (WCA) region has identified the need for a maritime engineer as part of the growth plan to expand our delivery capability and enhance the P&T global practice offering. The position is based in Vancouver. The successful candidate will work closely with our senior engineers and designers, and will have the opportunity to improve and build on technical skills while interacting face to face with our clients. The position will allow the successful candidate to directly apply and develop knowledge in design of maritime facilities through all project stages (concept through execution). Key responsibilities will include: + Work closely with senior maritime engineers to deliver high-quality engineering. + Lead and mentor junior engineers. + Providing efficient, effective, economical and timely solutions to maritime design problems in a multidiscipline project environment. + Performing computer-aided modeling and analysis of steel and concrete structures + Developing technical specifications. + Preparing quantity take-offs and developing project scopes, engineering and capital cost estimates. + Conducting site visits and performing inspections of existing structures. + Maintaining technical knowledge to ensure appropriate technologies are incorporated into designs and the most cost-effective design techniques are utilized. + P. Eng. Designation in the province of British Columbia. + Supporting business development initiatives. + Working within virtual teams in other geographies and business units for seamless delivery of clients in any location. Qualifications and Experience: + A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with an emphasis on structural design from a recognized university. + Minimum 7 years of experience including ports and marine engineering projects. + Experience in structural analysis and design of maritime structures. + Strong hands-on working knowledge and experience with structural engineering analysis software, preferably SAP2000. + In-depth knowledge and experience using Canadian, US and International Standards. + Aptitude for working in multi-disciplinary teams and the ability to interact successfully with all levels of staff, clients and vendors. + Strong interpersonal and time management skills with a commitment to achieving engineering excellence. + Strong verbal and written communications skills. + Second language an asset.
