The Manufacturing Tech Team Lead position will report directly to the Production supervisor. They will be the first front line connection to the production supervisor for all necessary communication. They will ensure all technical related issues are addressed and communicated. This position will also be responsible for ensuring the team members are completing all technical duties / responsibilities in a safe and timely manner. This person will lead the Technical Team on their respective shift.

 

General Responsibility:

 

Responsible for the operation of equipment and changeover activities associated with the Manufacturing Operations in Winchester, VA.  This includes a fleet of ~50 plastic injection machines, resin extruders, and supporting auxiliary equipment. Personnel responsibilities include Process Technicians, Changeover Technicians, and Bulk Handlers. The Manufacturing Tech lead coordinates with the production Supervisor and the manufacturing techs to ensure resources are assigned to proper priorities, all work is being done safely, the jobs are completed correctly and completely, by the properly trained personnel.  The goal of the Manufacturing Tech Lead is to improve machine uptime by reducing unplanned downtime and improving performance efficiencies.  The Manufacturing Tech Lead is also responsible for communication of daily tasks/status of technical work to the organization and to the other shifts

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

Utilizes lean principals to drive improvements in efficiency in changeover time and accuracy as well as in consistency and predictability in the injection processing. Collaborates with Maintenance team by providing feedback on equipment performance and needs. Audit’s resin and material usage and inventory Compliance with safety and SEAL requirements. Assures technical staff is properly trained in the safe and efficient operation of equipment. Regularly inspects machinery for safety issues, including, but not limited to non-functioning lights, ground and trip hazards, broken pieces, and exposed wiring.  Keeps machines in a neat, well-stocked, clean, organized manner, per company program. Keeps in compliance with and abreast of all OSHA regulations. Works with maintenance staff to ensure that maintenance issues are clearly and promptly reported, and support is available during repairs. Works with R&D team to support new product development for both processing and equipment requirements and setup. Works with Manufacturing Engineering team to determine equipment specifications for purchases. Schedules technical employees according to forecasted workloads. Works with maintenance employees and other staff to develop an effective, proactive team that works together to achieve plant objectives. Supports large project work that includes outside contractors.  Ensuring the contractors are following all safety requirements. Ensures adherence to company safety standards, policies, and procedures. Ensures technical staff correctly wears and uses safety equipment, as required. Also, ensures that all safety inspections are completed as required.  Works with the team to establish goals, priorities, and expectations, and to develop the action plans and strategies for accomplishing them.  Take initiative in solving problems and offering suggestions for process improvement. Expedites production, ensures product quality, and supports lean manufacturing. Ensure applicable reports are timely and accurate to the supervisor and manager.  Lead crew safety meetings/training and support safety initiatives including STOP, and SEAL in the technical department. 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:    

Must have a minimum of 5 – 7 years experience in technical field. Strong knowledge of injection molding and troubleshooting. Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly. Lean manufacturing experience – to include 6S, SMED. Proven commitment to safety and ensuring solid housekeeping initiatives. Proven ability to lead, direct, control and organize efforts in support of production. Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels both in and out of the facility. Excellent organization skills. Ability to become proficient on Microsoft software programs and others as necessary. Must pass post offer physical, controlled substance screen and criminal/reference        background.
