Manufacturing Engineer – Systems                                                                                                   

 

We are seeking a process-focused manufacturing engineer with a strong interest in continuous improvement and a passion for manufacturing to support our cooling equipment manufacturing team and support new product introductions. This individual must be a highly motivated self-starter with exceptional communication skills and a strong mechanical aptitude.

 

This role is based at our Woburn MA headquarters. You will be a member of a customer-focused, cross-functional manufacturing team interfacing with manufacturing personnel, manufacturing supervision, planning, purchasing, engineering and quality. In this role, you will promote a culture of lean manufacturing with an emphasis on eliminating waste in processes. This position will report to the Systems Manufacturing Engineering Manager as part of the Operations team.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

Serve as first point of contact for technical issues at the shop floor level. Drive resolution of issues quickly and effectively to prevent re-occurrence. Promote a ‘Stop and Fix’ work environment to prevent quality escapes and improve work practices. Focus efforts on the elimination of the 8 wastes and promote a culture of continuous improvement and Lean in the factory. Identify and implement process improvements and cost reductions on existing production products or assembly cells operations. As required, initiate and execute design and process documentation changes related to the issues discovered or improvements made through the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process. Perform time studies, analysis of bottlenecks, and line balancing to help set and maintain labor standards for system builds. Utilize data and analysis results to recommend and implement productivity improvements. Perform and document detailed process audits of existing and new products in support of creating production process documentation (process and inspection checklists, work instructions, and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs). Drive the standardization of work cells including the documentation of standard work, setup of tool organization systems, defining inventory presentation, and implementing visual controls in work cells. As required, lead teams in improvement projects or process mapping activities like Value Stream Mapping (VSM). Participate in new product development as a key member of cross functional product development teams providing Design for Manufacturing and Assembly input to the design team as well as planning and coordinating the prototype product builds. Develop interactive training aids for new or existing manufacturing processes or procedures Work with manufacturing personnel and engineering to recommend, design, and implement tooling and fixtures that improves process efficiency or yield.

 

Minimum requirements: A BS degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering is required. 2 to 5 years work experience in a factory environment is required. Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite is required. Experience using Solidworks and DraftSight or AutoCAD is strongly preferred.

 

Additional experience / skills in the following areas are preferred:

Lean Manufacturing (Eliminating the 8 Wastes) 5S Implementation Time studies and Line Balancing ERP or MRP systems Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) DFM/DFA Metal fabrication (Machining, Welding, Sheet Metal) Refrigeration and process plumbing US Citizen or green card holder

 

Domestic and international travel expected up to 5% of time to support other Lytron sites, customer and supplier visits.
