Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description: The Manufacturing Engineer role at Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) in Waco, TX, is pivotal in driving comprehensive improvements across all facets of manufacturing operations. From enhancing processes and tooling to optimizing machine designs, capital investments, this position plays a crucial role in advancing safety, quality, delivery, and cost efficiency. Through the application of Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, the incumbent will lead initiatives to diagnose and rectify issues, while continuously striving for innovation and excellence. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and vendors ensures a holistic approach to problem-solving, while leveraging standardization methods to sustain improvements. Project management skills are essential for overseeing improvement projects from inception to completion, while a focus on metrics and results ensures tangible outcomes that positively impact the organization's transformation. Responsibilities Process and Quality Control + Maintain material specifications, product drawings, routing sheets, manufacturing procedures, equipment/process/customer requirements (Technical Package). + Analyze non-conforming material data and utilize stability tools for process control. + Troubleshoot issues through validation of critical process variables. Provide technical guidance to manufacturing personnel. Continuous Improvement (CIP) + Conduct development programs for continuous improvement of products, processes, and technology. + Identify and implement cost-saving and process improvement projects. + Maintain and improve floor-level work instructions for process improvements. + Assist in reducing setup times and enhancing manufacturing processes. + Interface with customers on product, process, and quality issues. + Continuously improve manufacturing methods. Project Management + Act as project manager for process and product improvement activities. + Manage incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. + Analyze and prepare capital equipment justifications (Capex). Support and Documentation + Support Quality System Improvement initiatives. + Collaborate with other departments to resolve engineering issues. + Maintain records and documentation pertinent to responsibilities. + Develop and maintain technical packages for new and existing processes. + Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards. Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Others are welcome to apply if results from experiences can be quantified and verified. + 5+ years of experience in engineering, including project management, process improvements, and cost savings in a production environment. + Experience in Kaizen, continuous improvement (CIP), and problem-solving. + Excellent analytical skills and strong verbal & written communication skills. + Demonstrated record of achievement in improving operational metrics (e.g., OEE, pph, uptime, setup time, output). + Proficient in additional computer skills including Lotus Notes, Baan MRP system, ME10 CAD, Deform, Solid Works, MES, or SCADA systems. + Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and re-prioritize as needed. + Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt certification, or the ability to achieve within one year. Preferred Qualifications + Experience in a manufacturing environment in fasteners or aerospace with proven results. + The knowledge and coaching ability to positively influence and guide supervisory leadership.
