Managing Director, Turnaround and Restructuring Services

Job Summary:

The TRS “Turnaround and Restructuring Services” Managing Directoris responsible for executing, building out, and leading a TRS team in business restructuring and bankruptcy related engagements under the direction of an Advisory Principal. The TRS Managing Director is also expected to spend a significant amount of time marketing and networking for new business, including identifying, pursuing and leading new business proposals and closing engagement sales.

Job Duties:

Turnaround & Restructuring Services: 

Takes a lead role in winning and leading performance of company-side and creditor-side restructuring and turnaround work and/or interim management engagements Works and assists Principals in identify, pursuing and winning new business opportunities Leads BDO pitch team for small or middle market company opportunities, participates as key speaking member of pitch team for larger new business opportunities.  Assists pitch team in responding to new business inquiries Contacts creditors, lawyers, bankers and internal BDO contacts to pursue new business opportunities (debtor, creditor, UCC, litigation, etc.) Builds and expands network of contacts in the industry (lawyers, bankers, PE firms, creditors, etc.) and gets name known in restructuring industry Prepares complete pitch book for new business opportunities, including cover letter and conflict check Conducts and clears conflict checks, prepares draft retention affidavits or engagement letters and reviews fee applications or invoices; ensures compliance with all other court filing requirements Builds and maintains network of contacts in the industry (e.g., lawyers, bankers, PE firms, creditors, etc.) Cross-sells other BDO services (corporate finance, valuation, tax, due diligence, litigation, assurance, etc.)

Engagement Project Leadership:

Takes lead role in preparing and executing BDO engagement strategy as project leader in consultation with Advisory principal Takes lead role in presenting BDO work product to counsel or client and responds to questions  Takes lead role in interactions with counsel or senior company management on complex operational, restructuring or bankruptcy issues Possesses superior financial restructuring and bankruptcy technical skills, including strong ability to identify bankruptcy or financial restructuring related issues and make recommendations to address issues or find solutions to problems Possesses superior ability to analyze cash flow projections, identify issues and develop a plan of action to address issues  Reviews reorganization/liquidation plan, evaluates plan for client, identifies key issues and makes recommendations to address issues Evaluates and recommends alternative courses of action and potential solutions to achieve best result for client Testifies at deposition or in Court on work performed by BDO and defend work in cross examination as needed

Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises the day-to-day workload of TRS Directors, Senior Managers, Managers, Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements; reviews work product, provides timely performance reviews and assists in the development of goals and objectives to enhance staff professional development Provides on-the-job training for all TRS Directors, Senior Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on each engagement Acts as Career Advisor to TRS Directors, Senior Managers, Managers, Senior Associates and Associates, as appropriate

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other relevant field, required MBA or other relevant advanced degree, preferred

Experience:

Ten (10) or more years of prior experience performing business restructuring and/or related consulting services, required Prior experience working within a national public accounting firm or consulting organization, preferred Five (5) or more years of management experience, required

License/Certifications:

CIRA and/or CTP designation, preferred  CPA, CFE and other relevant certifications, beneficial

Software:

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to review work product developed by others Willingness to go above and beyond to provide superior work product while meeting engagement deadlines  Superior analytical skills, including ability to identify issues and anomalies Solid organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment Proven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously  Ability to effectively managing a team of professionals and delegate work assignments as needed Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel  Ability to encourage team environment on engagements and contribute to the professional development of assigned personnel Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagements, while timely keeping Principals informed of progress Ability to develop financial models, especially integrated P&L with balance sheets and cash flows Advanced knowledge of debt restructuring, cash flow and balance sheets, along with liquidation analysis Advanced knowledge of bankruptcy and insolvency process Ability to travel to BDO clients local, regional, and national 

 

 

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

California Range: $325,000 - $420,000  NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $200,000 - $400,000 Washington Range: $325,000 - $420,000
