Who we’re looking for 

Toyota’s Legal Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated attorney with experience in automotive optional products and financial services law.  This role will provide advice on various optional product and consumer finance issues, including compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations, supporting Toyota Motor Insurance Services (TMIS).

This role's primary responsibility is advising on transactional, regulatory, and compliance matters arising under state optional product law, federal and state financial services laws, and related agency rules and regulations.

Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, the person in this role will provide advice on a broad array of optional product and consumer finance issues.

What you’ll be doing  

Conducting regulatory reviews for strategic and complex deals, including involvement in compliance work stream and negotiations.

Lead early involvement in the development of new or expanded offerings and services to make them compliant from creation.

Advising on reinsurance, personal lines insurance products, and insurance agency law.

Negotiating and managing state forms and other required filings.

Evaluating, researching, and advising on pilots and strategic initiatives, and private label opportunities in the mobility finance space.

Advising on long-term and scaling strategy for strategic initiatives.

Supporting regulatory examinations and litigation in the optional product, reinsurance, and consumer finance space.

What you bring –  

Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and Juris Doctorate (JD) degree

Relevant automotive optional products or financial services work experience in a large law firm or in-house environment

Admitted to any U.S. state bar and able to obtain a license to practice law in Texas

Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment on diverse matters requiring complex legal analysis

Commitment and ability to act with discretion, strict confidentiality, and sensitivity towards issues and individuals

Ability to understand the perspective of clients when finding solutions

Capable of working independently and as part of a team

Strong written and communication skills

Ability to interface effectively and build and maintain strong relationships across multiple business units

 Added bonus if you have:

In-house legal department experience 

Working knowledge of TILA, CLA, TCPA, SCRA, UDAAP, FTC, and FCRA, and also related sales/originations laws.

Experience in working with Risk Management, Compliance, and Audit

Commercial and consumer contracting experience
