Job purpose
The Manager - Technical Accounting is responsible for managing all of the technical accounting topics that arise in the Company (Corporate and BU). S/he will be the point person for collaborating with the business units at various levels and locations to understand the issues, research relevant topics, prepare quality documentation to support the conclusion, and be able to provide guidance and recommendations to varying levels of stakeholders at the Business Unit and the Corporate function Accounting Officer of the Company. Further, this individual will provide oversight for all areas of corporate technical accounting topics. Additionally, this position will be a key contributor, along with the SEC Reporting Sr. Manager, in preparing and reviewing certain aspects of the Company’s external filings related to technical accounting areas. The Manager, Technical Accounting will report to the Assistant Controller.
Key responsibilities
Leads all aspects of the Company’s technical accounting issues with a team that manages various topics and issues.Liaise with the business units and serve as the point person to serve as a key resource in analysing and determining the appropriate accounting treatment of material and complex transactions. Prepare technical accounting memorandums documenting the conclusions of such transactions as necessary.Provide oversight and support to the members of the Technical Accounting team consisting of 3-4 team members responsible for recurring specific technical accounting issues including pension and other postretirement benefits, share-based compensation, and segment reporting, restructuring, incentives, etc.Manage certain key critical technical accounting issue research, documentation and disclosures as topics arise. Collaborate with the Treasury team to oversee the accounting for treasury activities, primarily external debt and hedging activities (including cash flow hedges, cross-currency interest rate swap net investment hedges) and serve as a key resource to the Treasury team in supporting various strategic initiativesResponsible for the ongoing analysis of the Company’s Goodwill balance for impairment. Support that analysis with a technical accounting memo at least in accordance with the annual assessment, or whenever facts and circumstances warrant.Oversee the adoption and implementation of any new accounting standards for the Company asNeeded and monitor standard setter activity and assess the impact of new developments in accounting standards.Lead discussions with internal and external auditors with respect to the Company’s position on key technical accounting matters.Collaborate with various stakeholders on developing and updating the Company’s accounting policiesSupport the SEC Reporting team in providing input, preparing and reviewing various aspects of the Company’s external filings.What we’re looking for
