The role of the De Beers Social Impact and SED team is to support strengthening the De Beers Group relationships with communities through building a brand with social purpose.  This includes maximising socio-economic impact in communities; managing social risk; implementing best practice social performance at operations; and working with relevant areas of the business to creatively engage our stakeholders on our social impact.

Job Description

The purpose of this role is to support the development and implementation of the De Beers Group SED and Social Impact strategy and associated programmes for De Beers Group - Non Managed Entities.  Providing technical support to operational teams, to enable best practice implementation on SED and Social performance, and lead a higher profile engagement with all stakeholders, to create value for our host communities and to support building the De Beers Group brand with stakeholders.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Develop the SED and social impact strategy for De Beers Group Non Managed EntitiesPartner with the operations to develop the objectives, programmes, policies & procedures, and targetsDevelop and review Business cases and business plans for impact and value.Monitor and report on the SED & Social impact KPIs and programmesDevelop SED and social impact Risk log and monitor action programmes and plansDeliver the SED & Social impact programmes which should maximize impactProviding best practice and timely technical advisory expertise to BUs and operational teamsTracking, assessing and reporting on implementation, including through Life of Mine, closure planning, and illegal miningLeading external stakeholder engagement on social issues at a regional level, as well as building the De Beers Group brand as a leader in social impact through participation and organisation of key forums and events.Implement social impact incident reporting, investigation, and analysisImplement an effective assurance and operational self-assessment audit environmentDefine key emergency and crisis management response processes and ensure appropriate competency and testing of responseManage the Non Managed entities budgetProject manage the delivery of high impact programmes

QualificationsA Degree in Economics/ Social Science/ Business Management or relevant degreeStrong expertise in developmental finance/ economic development/ Enterprise development would be an added advantageStrong technical expertise, business acumen and experience in design and implementation of socio-economic development programmes in developing countries,Strong expertise in the delivery of social management programmesPractical experience of working at site levelDemonstrated experience of delivering complex programmes to budget and schedule and measurement of socio-economic development impact

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

Experience working in complex stakeholder environmentsStrong foundational knowledge in one or more of these areas: economic analysis, socio-economic development, social management programmes, value chain development and enterprise developmentStrong experience of developing and implementing high impact Socio-economic development programesExperience of having managed and led operational teamsPractical experience of working at site levelExperience in the extractive sector (highly desirable). Experience of having worked in partnerships and engagement with governments, academia or civil society organisations at a regional or local level.
