Summary of Job Duties:The Manager of Clinical Operations is responsible for periop anesthesia and psa technicians, administering patient services, liaison between physicians and nurses, and serving on various committees. Supervises technicians and coworkers to ensure smooth processes, quality, and excellent customer service. The duties of the Health Education Coordinator contribute to the effort to further the mission of UAMS: To improve Arkansans' health and health care.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and Two (2) years of experience as a hospital technician or administration, OR High School Diploma and Six (6) years of hospital technician or administration experience.
Basic Life Support Provider Certification within the first 90 days of hire.
Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Move and set up anesthesia machines (to minimize damage and ensure patient safety)
Test connections to gas pipelines and tank supply (e.g., oxygen tank safety)
Test wall suction and other suction devices
Troubleshoot failures in anesthesia machine checkout (e.g., failed scavenging, leaks, etc)
Troubleshoot monitoring equipment (e.g., pulse oximetry, EKG, capnography, FloTrac)
Set up equipment for fiberoptic intubation, and handle the FOI scope to prevent damage
Preferred Qualifications:
Two (2) years of leadership
Anesthesia tech
ASATT Certification as an Anesthesia Technician or Technologist

Responsibilities:
Recruit, hire, and onboard staff to maintain full staffing
Work with the faculty to implement and manage the application process for periop pipeline programs
Work with the CRNA anesthesia tech liaison, clinical engineering, and the Vice Chair for Operations to clarify roles and responsibilities for the anesthesia techs and to create and deploy robust initial and ongoing training procedures
Create staffing schedules
Create and implement robust and comprehensive training and competency
Assessments for all clinical areas that culminate with shadowing experiences in Periop Services.
Ensure Techs follow procedure/guidelines for proper stocking/restocking of supplies
Ensure annual training is completed and up-to-date
Ensure optimal handling of all equipment through technical expertise and a robust training program to develop the technical expertise of all members
Ensure staff safety & OSHA compliance (e.g., controlled substances, other high-risk medications, needles, electrical hazards, anesthetic gases, radiation safety, lifting safety) and all general institutional mandatories (e.g., HIPAA training, compliance, flu vaccination, etc.)
Act as a resource for technicians, providers, learners, and other healthcare team members by providing technical guidance and instruction as appropriate. Serve as an instructor/facilitator of educational in-services for technicians as well as orientation and training of technicians and other health care team members.
Ensure communication between clinicians and the techs (e.g., place monthly tech schedule calendar in the stock room & control room for clinicians and techs)
Track tech performance, including, but not limited to compliance with standard room turnovers, shift handoffs, quality of equipment preparation in all assigned areas, daily completion of the accountability form, and attendance for the Tuesday morning meetings.
Collect and address feedback from clinicians concerning tech availability, responsiveness, usefulness during emergencies, skill in troubleshooting equipment, and obtaining Specimens, ABGs, ACTs, and other point-of-care tests
Utilize feedback and formal performance evaluations to improve team member engagement, performance, and career development
Follow productivity measures to document appropriate staffing levels and utilization (including the completion of low frequency but critical workload, such as taking inventory to identify and redeploy items approaching their expiration date)
Make the daily staff assignments to ensure the team is optimally deployed.
Consult the upcoming Operating Room schedule to determine the supply and equipment needs for upcoming procedures, and deploy teams to ensure supplies and equipment accordingly (e.g., next-day procedures in off-sites that require a mobile anesthesia machine and pediatric equipment)
Work with end users, supply chain managers, and vendors to optimize equipment selection for each of the four supply areas (Main OR, ODS, Endoscopy, L&D) plus all specialty carts (pediatric anesthesia, MH, hemorrhage, DART, offsite, PRI).
Work with end users and supply chain managers to optimize restocking procedures and par levels for each of the supply areas and specialty carts
Maintain the systems the anesthesia techs will use to ensure optimal inventory in all locations (e.g., inventory and replace/update markers, stock sheets, contact list sheets, and par levels).
