The Manager of Capital Assets is responsible to perform fixed asset accounting functions of closing CIP projects to fixed assets, review journal entries as needed, review cost segregations as applicable, review reconciliations, create and update routine and ad hoc reports using advanced excel formulas and programming, manage senior accountants as applicable, and address inquiries from various outside property accountants. The position is to be a subject matter expert of the Oracle  fixed assets application, ensuring all GAAP and Tax books are updated correctly. The Manager of Capital Assets must exercise effective communication skills, exhibit strong cost accounting acumen, collaborating effectively with team members located in different offices throughout the US, and offer suggestions and support for improving practices and processes within a dynamic environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties to be assigned as necessary:

 

Review fixed asset addition journal entries, disposals, transfers and other journal entries prepared by others for proper documentation and GAAP and Tax accounting treatment and post journal entries.Work with Director of Capital Assets and other personnel for new property acquisitions. Prepare journal entries for new company acquisitions, revalue assets and upload new values, assign asset types, identify intangibles, base stock, & other.Review depreciation and amortization journal entries for all applicable assets.Review month end flux analysis to ensure additions, disposals, transfers and depreciation has been appropriately recorded.Review monthly asset account roll-forwards for each asset book and for the properties individually and on a consolidated basis and prepare GAAP to Tax reconciliations.Revise roll forward formats and cash flow worksheets using advanced excel programming or other applicable options for improved reporting for various departments such as P&A, Financial Reporting as needed.Review and maintain key analytics of fixed assets data and perform other financial analyses as needed and provide suggestions for gaining efficiencies and improving performance.Prepare ad hoc reports or modify system generated reports such as depreciation projections as necessary for Capex and other Departments.Function as a Subject Matter Expert of the Oracle Fixed Assets application, ensuring the asset records and tax books are accurate and properly maintained/updated, operations are functioning appropriately, and reports reflect accurate data.Maintain and update Oracle Fixed Asset categories and other reference data necessary for asset additions.Provide support to new and existing users of Oracle Fixed Assets. Answer questions and assist properties for all BNA and fixed asset questions.Work with Director to coordinate tasks for future centralization of Penn entities related to Capital Assets activities.Work collaboratively with internal and external consultants and with the Capex team for integration to ERP application.Collaborate with corporate and property gaming personnel and ensure that asset records correlate to the records maintained by the property gaming teams, providing process improvement recommendations.Provide support for internal and external audit requests, including sales/use tax audit and property tax requests, coordinating/managing/tracking the preparation of requested documentation and analyses.Communicate proactively with other Capex Staff, Seniors, Managers and Director as applicable for all relevant project and fixed asset related activities, managing staff accountants as necessary. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or equivalent preferred.Managerial experience preferred.Experience with Oracle Projects and Oracle Fixed Assets preferredStrong knowledge of accounting concepts and understanding of monthly, quarterly and year end close processes.Working knowledge and experience with job cost accounting system and fixed assets tax systems.Experience with account reconciliation software.Strong Microsoft Power Point, and Word skills, advanced Excel skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work in a high stress, fast paced environment managing multiple tasks, projects and personnel simultaneously with a positive, approachable demeanor. Must possess ability to prioritize conflicting duties for self and accounting department while maintaining timeline integrity for projects and tasks.Ability to multitask and meet deadlines under pressure.Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision/oversight by anticipating next steps.Able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats and present information appropriately based on the target audience.Attentive to details with ability to translate into the “big” picture.Regularly and proactively communicates work progress, concerns, and questions in an open and forthright manner.
