The Manager - Lean Performance Systems (LPS) is responsible for driving S&C Canada's Lean Performance Systems strategy, digitization of the operation and developing organizational capabilities. This role focuses on developing and implementing lean standards related to production system design, problem-solving, and process development. The Manager leads the LPS support services organization, partnering with internal stakeholders to identify and solve challenges that impede productivity and lead time reduction. Additionally, they will build organizational capability by teaching and coaching leaders and team members in lean practices to improve business outcomes. The Manager ensures the effective execution of LPS activities across S&C Canada’s manufacturing sites.
Responsibilities:
Lean Strategy Execution: Execute S&C Canada’s Lean Performance Systems strategy aimed at improving organizational productivity, capability development, and operational effectiveness. Develop and standardize Lean methodologies related to production system design, operations, and process improvement, ensuring alignment with S&C Canada’s business objectives. Monitor the implementation of the Lean strategy to ensure the achievement of operational goals.Lean Standards & Problem-Solving Methods: Create, refine, and maintain Lean standards and tools that govern problem-solving approaches, production flow, and continuous improvement efforts within the organization. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure that these standards are applied consistently and effectively in day-to-day operations.LPS Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the Lean Performance Systems (LPS) support team, ensuring they have the skills, knowledge, and tools to successfully execute their responsibilities. Set clear objectives and performance goals for the LPS team that support the larger business objectives. Manage resources within the LPS team to optimize support for various departments and manufacturing sites.Teaching & Coaching Lean Principles: Partner with S&C leadership and team members to build Lean capabilities across the organization by teaching and coaching them on Lean principles, methods, and tools. Facilitate workshops, hands-on problem-solving sessions, and ongoing coaching to drive the successful application of Lean practices in the field. Support leadership development programs related to Lean thinking and continuous improvement.Cross-functional Collaboration & Problem Solving: Partner with internal production teams and stakeholders to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and other barriers to productivity, providing Lean solutions to stabilize operations and reduce lead times. Lead, facilitate, and coach system-level improvement projects that span across different functional boundaries, ensuring alignment and collaboration between teams. Drive a culture of continuous improvement by supporting and promoting problem-solving activities at all levels.KPI Development & Monitoring: Collaborate with operations and LPS teams to develop relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track and document productivity improvements, cost reductions, and other Lean outcomes. Regularly review performance data to identify areas for future improvement, making data-driven recommendations to leadership.Project Management & Improvement Initiatives: Lead and manage various improvement projects aimed at achieving targeted operational goals, including productivity enhancement and process optimization. Ensure the effective use of Lean tools and methods by operations leadership and LPS team members throughout these projects. Oversee project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables to ensure projects are completed successfully and on time.Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing: Develop and maintain LPS training materials to support the ongoing education of employees in Lean methodologies, adapting these materials as needed for various levels of the organization. Facilitate the sharing of Lean knowledge and best practices across different teams and manufacturing sites, ensuring a unified approach to continuous improvement throughout the organization. Conduct regular audits of LPS standards and practices to ensure alignment with internal customer service expectations and industry benchmarksRequirements
Undergraduate degree in engineering or equivalent experience.7+ years of relevant experience implementing lean manufacturing systems (5s, 6-sigma green belt or black belt, Toyota Production System, HOS, etc.)3+ years of leadership experience with experience developing team problem-solving capabilities.Adept at working at both the strategic and operational levels as required to deliver consulting, facilitation, and coaching services that support line and staff function leader run-the-business and improvement activities.Capable of fostering collaborative working relationships with internal customers at all levels.Ability to build leader and team member capabilities in the areas of systems thinking, understanding variation, learning, and teaching, understanding human behavior, understanding the interaction of the above, and giving meaning and direction.Detailed knowledge of improvement tools and techniques and demonstrated ability to get results through their application to a variety of problems.Possess a working knowledge of new product development, production, service, and business support processes.Ability to act as a creative problem solver able to juggle diverse operational projects. Well-developed interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect with the ability to resolve conflict, moderate behaviors, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience. Sound communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation). Able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, from executive leadership to support staff. Able to present influentially to achieve buy-in from managers and team members. Able to explain complex ideas to team members in an easy-to-understand manner. Sound business acumen and analytical skills with the ability to use and analyze data to drive informed decisions, problem-solve complex issues, and leverage data and learnings to drive continuous improvement. Financial acumen and numerical ability to manage budgetary resources to maximum effectiveness. Proven success partnering across operations teams, creating effective partnerships at all levels, and collaborating at an operational level. Ability to operate in an ambiguous, fast-paced, multicultural work environment, interpret various instructions, solve practical problems, and deal with multiple variables and situations where only limited standardization and structure exist. Professional Engineer – P.Eng is preferredPhysical Effort:
