Manager I, Engineering - Event Platform, Streaming Control Plane

Datadog’s Event Platform is one of the core applications platforms on top of which Datadog products are built. It powers more than 50 Datadog products by ingesting above 200GB/s of data while offering high availability and low latency.

 

We are looking for a hands-on technical leader to lead the Streaming - Control Plane team - the team is responsible for the systems and abstractions streaming data between services within Datadog. 

 

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the most critical platforms at Datadog. You will lead a team of junior and senior engineers focused on low latency distributed streaming systems, using Java, Go, Rust and Kafka. The team orchestrates thousands of topics and hundreds of different consumers.

What You’ll Do

Lead technical and architectural discussions to better understand challenges and problems faced by our team and the streaming engineering community Stay in touch with your team’s code, roll up your sleeves when needed to unblock your team by writing code or troubleshooting issues and participate in an on-call rotation Lead and cultivate a team of engineers with a diverse skill-set, including performance management and career development Own and drive relationships with product teams and major stakeholders Run a lightweight agile process to pace and track what we work on and deliver high quality work on a timely manner Define and align team’s quarterly goals with the needs of the business and platform

Who You Are

You have a BS/MS/PhD in a Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent professional experience You are a manager by choice with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and lead high-performing teams You have experience building out robust platforms made up of services, data stores and data streams prioritizing high availability and performance You have a proven ability to work closely with internal teams to architect solutions at high scale You have significant experience in one or more backend languages, such as Go, Java or Rust; and with different types of streaming related technologies such as Kafka, Flink or Spark Structured Streaming You have a good affinity for user experience

Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
