Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned Classification Expert with 8+ years of specialized experience in technology and software classification, trade compliance operations, and ensuring compliance with SCOMET, US and Non-US regulations. The ideal candidate will lead and execute classification activities, drive technology management processes, and ensure full compliance with global import/export activities. This role also involves mentoring junior staff, contributing to policy development, and acting as a subject matter expert across business units.

Job responsibilities

Perform and oversee the accurate classification of technology, software, and hardware under the SCOMET, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN), and other relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., ITAR, EAR).Lead the end-to-end technology management process, including review, classification, documentation, and escalation of sensitive items.Ensure strict adherence to global trade regulations and internal corporate policies governing cross-border data transfers, exports, and re-exports.Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for classification and licensing determinations involving advanced technologies, encryption, and software.Collaborate with product development, engineering, legal, and logistics teams to gather technical details required for accurate classification.Partner with Global Trade Compliance leadership to develop and implement classification strategies, SOPs, and training programs.Drive the focal network, Supervise, coach, and mentor a team of classification analysts or specialists; support capacity planning and workload balancing.Monitor updates in trade laws and classification rulings, assess business impact, and communicate changes to stakeholders.Support internal/external audits and provide documentation or rationale supporting classification decisions.Drive the use of automation tools and classification databases, and recommend improvements for operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

Any Bachelor's or Master's degree with 5 to 8 years’ relevant experience in Global Trade.Minimum 5-8 years of hands-on experience in customs classification, preferably in a technology- or software-driven industry.Strong knowledge of SCOMET, U.S. and international trade regulations, including EAR, ITAR, and encryption controls.Proficiency in classifying software, cloud-based solutions, AI/ML technologies, and emerging digital products.Experience managing or mentoring trade compliance professionals.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and lead cross-functional classification initiatives.
