Summary
The Manager, Software Engineering, coordinates with other departments to meet the milestones during product development cycles. As a member of the Engineering management team, the Software Engineering Manager participates in defining and executing the overall engineering product development strategy, budget, team development and evaluation.
Position Responsibilities
Manages a group of software engineers, including budget planning, staffing, training, performance evaluation and career development. Attracts and retains high caliber staff and provides mentorshipCollaborates with management, production, and marketing to define product design requirementsPlans, coordinates, and directs engineering development projects. Reviews and approve product design decisionsDesigns, modifies, develops, writes and implements software applications as an individual contributorDesign and implement embedded software drivers and applications on a micro-controllerVerify and document product designs according to quality and regulatory guidelinesWorks in an Agile environment to coordinate software development projects including scope, scheduling and resourcingParticipates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software. Tests, analyzes, and debugs embedded software and digital electronicsFrequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areasEstablishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules and work plans. Interacts with senior managementOther duties as assignedBasic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience12+ years of experience in embedded programming and knowledge in embedded system designAt least 2+ years in a supervisory role and successfully managing a technical design team8+ years' experience on multiple engineering projects including research and development efforts, with a focus on embedded software aspects of the project life cycleExperienced in and knowledgeable of real-time operating systems (RTOS), I/O drivers, and micro-controllersExperienced in and knowledgeable of data communication protocols (i.e. I2C, SPI, CAN, USB)Demonstrated expert programming ability with C languageOccasionally may be required to travel within the Continental U.S.Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

$153,308 - $217,140AeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
ITAR Requirement:
This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
