JOB SUMMARY: Provides clinical and administrative leadership and is responsible for the management
of the assigned nursing division.
The Director of Nursing is accountable for the management of patient care, human, fiscal and material resources and the total environment of the nursing unit.
REPORTS TO: Vice President/C.N.O.
QUALIFICATIONS:
License to practice in the State of New York BSN preferred 5 years of clinical experience preferred Ability to meet competencies of assigned clinical unit Prior experience in Nursing supervision desirable

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides direction and leadership in the delivery of nursing care. Assumes a leadership role in staffing and scheduling of personnel, considering appropriate utilization of personnel, scope of practice, competencies, patient needs and complexity of care. Supports a professional practice environment which fosters excellence in nursing practice. Makes patient and staff rounds. Fosters professional nurse empowered decision-making, accountability and autonomy in nursing practice. Acts as a resource regarding clinical, administrative aspects of patient care, collaborating with the Vice President Nursing when indicated. Provides mentoring, coaching and counseling to staff. Is a clinical expert. Demonstrates responsibility for achieving goals and desired outcomes.Participates in risk management and crisis intervention. Acts as liaison to patients and/or families in times of crisis. Responds and assumes appropriate role in emergency codes/crisis intervention. Follows through with incidents, through investigation Addresses Employee Health incidents appropriately. Demonstrates knowledge of NYSDOH and JCAHO requirements and standards insuring compliace in areas of responsibility. Confers with Vice President, Employee & Labor Relations Director regarding employee conduct.

Demonstrates knowledge of scheduling and maintaining accurate records. Process the payroll in KRONOS for all departments as requested.

Establishes a collaborative relationship with the Nursing Educator and works as a partner for staff orientation, inservice and continuing education. Jointly identifies staff development needs and develop a plan for improvement. Jointly establishes competencies for the department and monitors achievement.
Recognizes and attracts high potential talent. Sets and clarifies performance expectations with employees and promotes ongoing feedback on a regular basis. Completes performance appraisals on time 100% of the time, follows through on action plans and returns to the Human Resources Department on time.
