Job Description:

This is a dual role manager and engineer position. It requires a leader that can staff, develop, and drive a team of both engineers and designers to accomplish program work. This individual will also apply mechanical engineering principles to support and maintain L3Harris FOS product lines during new product design, development, and production across a multidisciplinary team.  This invidual must be able to work within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer specifications.  In addition, this role supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues, document changes, and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards.

Essential Functions:

Act as lead mechanical engineer on various programs holding the responsibility for ensuring the designs and product performance meet customer specificationsApply mechanical engineering principles to generate new designs, or modify existing designs, in accordance with company design guidelines and proceduresApply configuration management principles to design documentation and technical data packagesGenerate, modify, and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, compliance matrices, etc. in accordance with industry, company, and customer requirementsCollaborate with engineering analysts to conduct finite element analysis on new designs showing compliance to internal guidelines, DoD requirements and customers' specificationsParticipate in and/or lead failure investigations, where appropriate, related to design, production build processes, and customer returnsPrepare materials for internal and customer design reviews, and effectively present material to design review teamsDevise design verification test sequences to demonstrate compliance with specified performance environments (temperature, vibration, shock, acceleration, etc).   Prepare associated test plans, and test reports.Support active production, which includes but is not limited to test fixture and tooling designs, product trouble shooting, document and drawing updates, process control improvements, and product design improvementsAssist the Department Manager in defining, maintaining, and improving the processes and best practicesAssist the Department Manager in labor and resource planning to ensure proper staffingAssist the Department Manager in performance management, objective setting, succession planning, and talent developmentPerform conflict resolution and develop performance improvement plans as neededAct as a mentor and coach to foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvementOther duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.9+ years professional experience using CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX etc9+ years professional experience with GD&T application and interpretation according to ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.1009+ years professional experience with dimensional stack-up/tolerance analysis Must be able to obtain a Security ClearanceMust be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Additional Skills:

Strong engineering fundamentals in physics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, engineering mechanics, fatigue, and vibration dynamics Strong knowledge of manufacturing methods and design for manufacturability (DFMA)Strong collaboration, communication and project management skillsKnowledgeable in DoD and MIL standards/specifications or other highly regulated industryExperience with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standardsKnowledgeable in engineering materials and 3D printingExperience with finite element analysis tools and methodsMaster of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
