Southwest General Health Center is searching to find its next Manager, Laboratory Services. This is an exciting opportunity to join a health system serving Southwest Cuyahoga, Northern Medina and Eastern Lorain counties. 

Southwest General encompasses 370-bed acute care hospital along with 3 medical centers and a employed medical group of over 100 providers. Southwest General  employs over 2,500 clinical and support staff.

Reporting to the Vice President of Ambulatory Operations & Business Development, the Manager, Laboratory Services oversees all operations with accountability and responsibility for fiscal, quality, safety, and other identified outcomes. They ensure profitable growth and are responsible for strategic business planning, program development, and maintaining exceptional quality in laboratory and pathology services. The Manager collaborates with the Vice President of Ambulatory Operations & Business Development on various projects such as strategic planning and specific initiatives. Additionally, they perform related duties as assigned, always aligning their actions with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. 

Laboratory services are comprised of multiple outpatient locations, all regulated by CLIA or CAP standards. The primary lab services are situated in the hospital’s main campus proximate to emergency and inpatient services. A secondary lab is located at our Southwest General Brunswick Medical Center adjacent to the freestanding emergency department. Oversight currently includes specimen accessioning, phlebotomy, microbiology, histology, hematology, chemistry, transfusion services and pathology. Pathology services and medical directorship are provided through an external contractual arrangement.

The Manager must be an experienced,  critical thinker, motivated to develop and enhance laboratory services through technology and efficiency improvements to achieve cost savings. They should possess in-depth knowledge of state and laboratory regulations and be able to advance laboratory services accordingly. 

This is an onsite role based in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. 

The successful Manager of Laboratory Services candidate will: 

Demonstrate knowledge and experience of compliance with rules and regulations related to all regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies. Establish and implement policies, objectives, and procedures for monitoring and maintaining quality within the departments.  Plan for, develop, and effectively manage departmental budget such that resources are deployed effectively and efficiently; and achieve fiscal targets.  Work with vice president to develop growth strategies to expand service offerings and utilization by internal and external referral sources. Monitor and implement service excellence processes to improve patient satisfaction and to reach the targeted outcomes for patient satisfaction.  The candidate will be a board registered Medical Laboratory Scientist with a bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) from an accredited college/university.

The preferred candidate will possess five or more years of leadership/supervisory experience across laboratory disciplines within the service line. A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
