Manager, Incident Response
What You'll Do Avalara is looking for an experienced Incident Response Manager to join the Detection and Response Team. You have a track record in incident response, demonstrating advanced technical expertise and leadership capabilities. As an Incident Response Manager, you will help protect Avalara from cyber threats, being the incident commander, developing and mentoring analysts, and improving our incident response capabilities. You will work hybrid out of the Durham, NC office (#LI-Hybrid). *This role is not eligible for Visa sponsorship* You will: Lead and coordinate incident response activities and work streams as the incident response manager. Make decisions and recommendations based on the results of the incident analysis and communicate the appropriate context to partners, including insights to identify, prevent, and respond to suspicious or malicious activity. Develop, document, and implement strategies, runbooks, capabilities, and techniques for incident response. Lead projects to deliver operational improvements as Avalara evolves. Work with security engineering and other teams to build solutions for analyzing security events at scale and protecting Avalara from threats. Collaborate with multiple teams including IT, Security Operations, Legal, HR, and Compliance to manage and reduce incidents. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior analysts, encouraging a culture of constant learning and improvement. Strengthen Metrics for measuring response effectiveness and provide consistent reporting to internal stakeholders. Be a subject matter expert in incident response, representing the team in meetings, audits, and presentations. What You'll Need to be Successful You have 5+ years’ experience leading Security Incident Response. You have 5+ years' experience across the information security domain, including familiarity with endpoint, email, network, cloud security, vulnerability management, incident response, and threat intelligence. You have experience with log analysis, network security, digital forensics, and incident response investigations. You enjoy building strategies to create both short-term and long-term plans for ongoing improvement. You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and draw meaningful conclusions. You have experience communicating and collaborating with multiple different partners. You have demonstrated leadership capabilities, leading teams during high-pressure situations. You have experience scripting / coding using Python or an equivalent language. You have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information security, or relevant experience. You are certified relating to digital forensics and incident response is a plus. About the Team You will report to the Sr. Manager of Detection and Response on the DART team.
