Manager, Disability and Claims Management (Contract)
Our GFL team is expanding, and we’re looking for a Manager, Disability and Claims Management (Contract) for 18 months! In this role, you’ll lay a vital role by overseeing end-to-end Disability claims, including Workers Compensation, Salary Continuance and Long-Term Disability across Canada. As a Manager of Disability Claims Management, you will oversee the claims reporting, tracking, objections, appeals, and help facilitate return to work to minimize lost time, while ensuring compliance with various WCB policies and legislation. Additionally, you will provide guidance and support for complex worker’s compensation claims by applying comprehensive case management principles in close collaboration with the Disability and Claims Management Specialists, Human Resources and Operations to reduce the financial impact of occupational injury/illness claims.

A “Day in the Life" of a Manager, Disability and Claims Management (Contract):

Support the Disability Management Team in day-to-day operations and provide expert advice to managers, HR, and business leaders on managing work-related injuries and illnesses in compliance with legislative and contractual requirements.

Collaborate with stakeholders to create, implement, and monitor early and safe return-to-work plans, leveraging functional information from healthcare providers and/or WCB to reduce claim durations and promote recovery.

Manage all aspects of claims, including preparing appeals, conducting file reviews, drafting formal employer submissions for cost relief, and maintaining accurate and confidential records throughout the claim lifecycle.

Analyze injury trends across regions, develop actionable insights, and deliver statistical reports and presentations featuring detailed graphs and charts.

Design and deliver Disability Management training sessions while providing leadership and effective communication with stakeholders, including management, WCB, healthcare professionals, employees, and unions.

Lead and facilitate return-to-work meetings with all stakeholders as required, ensuring collaborative and efficient processes for successful reintegration.

Support the field H&S Team with respect to all disability management related matters and manage additional tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

College diploma or university degree in Human Resources, with 2–3 years of experience managing complex physical and mental health occupational injury claims.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills for professional verbal and written interactions with employees and external partners.

Broad understanding of disability management and workers’ compensation, with working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and the Employment Standards Act.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn and utilize HRIS systems.

Ability to distill complex concepts into simple, relevant, and executable strategies that drive results.

Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle, with flexibility for occasional travel. Bilingual fluency in English and French is an asset.

Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of thriving under pressure while meeting deadlines in both independent and team settings.
