Description:

The Manager, CPE develops, organizes, leads and administers the CPE Program(s) within assigned ACPE Center (Program) and across the Trinity Health designated area (e.g., Regional Health Ministry or Administrative Service Area), meeting or exceeding the accreditation and regulating standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). They develop curriculum for ACPE-Accredited Levels IA, IB, IIA, IIB and Certified Educator CPE. They organize the admission and onboarding process for new CPE students. The Manager of CPE is responsible for marketing the CPE Programs and organizing, managing, and administering all educational/clinical events and opportunities relevant to the CPE Program. They evaluate, develop, and manage the CPE Programs to maintain accreditation standards and regulations and address changes needed to remain in compliance. The Manager develops educational presentations about Spiritual Care, chaplaincy skills and related topics. The Manager oversees the CPE Educator(s) and collaborates with the Director, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), Director, Spiritual Care, local Mission Leader, chaplain colleagues, and other health system colleagues in the organizing of the CPE programs and supervision of CPE students. They provide direct Spiritual Care services, as appropriate.

The position reports directly to the Director of CPE with a matrix reporting to the local Mission Leader.

Position responsibilities:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

Ensures the development, review and updating of program policies for the ACPE Center, including the maintenance of student handbooks to ensure compliance with ACPE accreditation standards; and the preparation required for periodic ACPE accreditation reviews.

Develops, maintains, administers, and improves programs of CPE according to ACPE accreditation standards.

Develops comprehensive CPE programming annually to meet needs of local and national market for CPE training

Plans, administers and manages the operational details of all CPE programs for a high quality educational/training experience for all CPE students; collaborates and communicates with Spiritual Care and Mission leaders and colleagues to coordinate the delivery of high-quality CPE and Spiritual care

For Levels 1A, 1B, IIA, and IIB intern CPE programs, organizes and conducts admissions interviews, communicates admission decisions, and ensures that application materials are handled in a professional manner

For CPE Residency and Supervisory (CEC) education programs (temporary one-year employees), oversees the hiring/admission process; includes Spiritual Care and Mission leaders/colleagues and interprofessional colleagues in the interviewing process; collaborates with HR recruiter in the hiring process; and communicates with candidates regarding hiring process and decisions; does performance evaluations and performance coaching as needed

Plans, assigns, directs and evaluates the clinical and educational work of CPE interns, CPE residents, and CPE Certified Educator Candidacy students

Maintains comprehensive and current knowledge of ACPE Standards, and ensures all aspects of the ACPE Program design, curriculum and program operations are in constant compliance with ACPE Standards

Ensures that ACPE Center policies and procedures are implemented and maintained

Prepares all required documentation annually for Medicare Passthrough information submission to Finance

In consultation with the CPE Professional Advisory Group (PAG) Chair, the CPE Educator, and relevant Spiritual Care and Mission leaders, recruits PAG members, organizes and facilitates PAG meetings to invite feedback and consultation to evaluate, maintain and enhance the standard of excellence in the CPE program

Coordinates and has primary responsibility for Three-Year and Six-Year ACPE Accreditation reviews, preparing annual reports, and all official and required communication on behalf of the CPE Program to ACPE

Markets CPE Programming Schedule to market service area and nationally (for residency program) and responds to all requests for information about CPE programs in a timely manner; and

Liaisons with local colleges, divinity schools, seminaries, denominational/faith group office, and clergy concerning CPE schedule or other matters relevant to them.

Educates and clinically supervises CPE students in a manner congruent with Trinity Health's Mission, Vision, and Values and according to ACPE standards through activities such as these:

Creating and utilizing a well-developed curriculum for the ACPE Center's CPE programs

Providing student orientation and training in cooperation with Managers of Spiritual Care related to the ACPE Center

Providing excellent and innovative educational opportunities in context of the clinical supervision of CPE students

Providing timely and appropriate feedback to CPE students about their educational assignments and clinical ministry experiences.

Provides Pastoral Coverage and participates in other Chaplaincy Department programs as assigned:

Actively participates in the delivery of Spiritual Care to patients, families and staff and shares in on-call as requested

Actively participates in the relevant Spiritual Care and Mission programs, including shared worship leadership, staff meetings, strategic work groups and committees, and supporting and participating in Mission and/or Spiritual Care projects and initiatives; and

Participates in the Spiritual Care and Mission strategic planning for continuous quality improvement, innovation and growth specifically related to the CPE program.

Collaborates with Mission, Spiritual Care, and Interprofessional leaders in innovating new and better Spiritual Care delivery and education programs and practices:

Develops new programs of CPE and/or related educational programs in conjunction with the Director of CPE, Local Mission Leader, and Director of Spiritual Care

Serves as an educational and leadership resource for Spiritual Care leaders and chaplains

Contributes to the health system's success targets for select metrics, including patient satisfaction, patient safety, colleague engagement, and other priority aims.

Contributes to the wider community through publication, teaching and research:

Authors or co-authors materials relevant to Spiritual Care and Spiritual Care education

Participates in teaching/lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited in the local, regional or national CPE and pastoral care community

Assists in developing learning opportunities in research for CPE students; and may participate in local, regional, or national professional practice groups as member or leader, pending the balance with other essential duties and ACPE Center (Program) needs.

Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to Trinity Health ministries. Discusses patient/participant and health system information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

What's required:

Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the administration and management of an ACPE Center, including policy and curriculum development, business planning and implementation, and curriculum development, as normally obtained, in part, through an undergraduate and graduate degrees from a college, university, or theological school accredited by the Council for Higher Education (CHE) or the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) such as a degree in theology (e.g. M.Div.) or a related field (e.g. pastoral ministry, pastoral counseling, mission leadership).

Have comprehensive knowledge of theory and practice pertaining to the clinical supervision (education) of CPE students, as required by obtaining certification as a CPE Educator or Associate Educator with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE); ordination or ministry licensure or endorsement by denomination or faith group.

Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively more responsible CPE/Spiritual Care experience within an acute care and/or related healthcare ministry. Three (3) to five (5) years of faith group ministry and/or similar professional leadership preferred. An equivalent combination of experience may be considered.

Additional certification as a chaplain by a nationally recognized professional certifying agency is preferred, namely the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Neshama (the National Association of Jewish Chaplains/NAJC), or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).

Ecclesiastical endorsement as required for ACPE Educator certification.

Possesses excellent customer service, acting as a role model for CPE students, colleagues, and others.

Educational leadership ability, including the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effective public speaking and presentation skills.

Proficiency with relevant computer skills in data entry, word processing, report creation, etc. in such programs as contained in the Microsoft Office suite.

General skills as an educator and leader, including excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively in professional relationships of ministry and education with students, patients, visitors, and colleagues in crisis and routine situations.

Strong knowledge of organization policies, procedures and processes.

Ability to facilitate and lead a professional team model of Spiritual Care colleagues, students and interdisciplinary colleagues, demonstrating a reasonable tolerance for change. Strong human relations, interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish relationships with Mission Leaders and internal stakeholders.

Demonstrated proficiency and expertise to identify, evaluate and articulate operational and educational opportunities and risks, business needs/gaps and understand customer/stakeholder interests.

Expertise in project leadership, process improvement, budgetary management as well as strong analytical skills.

Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

Pay range: $84,156- $134,659

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
