Maintenance Worker

Position Summary: 

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the overall cleanliness and day-to-day maintenance of the Program. 

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position: 

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and with input from the Program Director, the Maintenance Worker will:  

Perform basic maintenance duties, including changing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, repair/replace leaking faucets, adjust/install doors, fix/replace door handles, tile work/flooring, sheetrock, plastering and painting.  

Arrange furniture as requested.  

Perform cleaning duties, including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms/bathrooms, washing walls, vacuuming, stripping, buffing, and waxing of floors, shampooing rugs, cleaning fans and air ducts, etc.  

Clean lint from dryer ducts.  

Perform daily water temperature checks.  

Remove all refuse and garbage from the facility daily and more frequently as needed. 

Ensure that garbage is put out for pick up on appointed days.

Assist in the adequate paper and sanitary supplies are on hand for all designated areas.  

Ensure the safe storing of all chemicals and solvents according to federal regulations.  

Conduct regular inventory of cleaning supplies, materials, and tools.  

Follow all agency, state, and federal regulations to maintain program compliance, including OSHA regulations  

Assist in other facilities or work as part of a crew, when requested.  

Maintain exterior of the facility, including light snow/ice removal, trash removal, playground maintenance as needed, light gardening, sweeping, painting, etc.  

Open and close facility as needed.  

Be on call for security and emergencies at the facility, as needed.  

Perform monthly comprehensive physical plant inspection of the site and complete checklist to ensure that all problems are addressed in a timely manner. 

Ensure that all incidents, including allegations of abuse and neglect, are reported immediately upon discovery to Program Management.  

Use positive approaches when handling difficult situations. Be adaptable to changes.  

Participate in in-service trainings as required for professional growth and development.  

Represent HeartShare’s, both within and outside the organization, in a manner that promotes HeartShare’s standards, and vales statement, in addition to all other agency policies and procedures.

Travel between schools in Queens and Brooklyn when needed.  

Undertake any additional task and initiatives as assigned by the supervisor or Education Management.
