Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the March Inns on March Air Reserve Base, California. The purpose of this position is to provide lodging maintenance while performing facility maintenance, motor vehicle operations, and grounds maintenance duties for all lodging areas and to accomplish those duties and tasks. This is a flexible position, which means you are not guaranteed hours or benefits but could work anywhere between 0 and 40 hours per week. Responsibilities 1. Performs maintenance and minor repairs to interior/exterior structures and related fixtures of Base Lodging. Assignments require the use of a variety of trade practices, i.e. carpentry, painting, plumbing, minor furniture repair, woodwork finishing, and electrical repairs. These simple routine tasks are performed with little or no supervision. Complex jobs will be performed by the local Civil Engineering Department. 2. Repairs small holes in sheetrock walls to include patching, sanding smooth and painting as required. Mixes coating materials according to specific directions or uses pre-mix paint. Ensure surfaces and full coated, protect and free from drips and runs. Unclogs/cleans stoppages in plumbing; replaces washers in faucets and replaces shower heads' performs grouting of tiles. 3. Performs minor repairs and maintenance of furniture to include gluing and refinishing damaged areas. Repairs drapery rods and/or blinds, replaces interior trim, broken and worn tile. Performs minor repairs to small appliances such as vacuum cleaners, lamps, coffee pots, etc. Installs shelving and towel racks or rods in bathrooms, housekeeping, and supply storage and other designated areas. Troubleshooting heating/cooling issues. 4. Ensures cleanliness of lodging grounds; waters lawns and flower beds, mows lawn, trims shrubs and greenery around buildings. Washes windows using a step ladder or extension ladder. Uses shampoo machine to deep clean carpet/rugs. 5. Investigates any reported maintenance issues to determine cause and take corrective action. Refers problems not within capability to immediate supervisor for further action. Maintains written records of maintenance and all inspections performed for local requirements. Qualifying Experience: Applicant must have the necessary work experience to be able to apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities appropriate to the grade level of the position. Must be able to use a variety of hand tools and small equipment associated with carpentry, painting, and plumbing. Must have experience in the minor repair of furniture, woodwork refinishing, electrical repair and plumbing. Must be able to read, write, and speak english and communicate effectively. Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions. The job requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and reaching for long periods of time. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be physically able to occasionally lift objects and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance if needed. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle up to one ton. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Must be able to provide a copy of his/her driving record. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
