JOB FUNCTION:
Oversees daily shop operations, ensuring efficient workflow, quality repairs, and compliance with safety standards. This role combines hands-on mechanical expertise with leadership responsibilities, including training mechanics, troubleshooting complex issues, and coordinating maintenance schedules.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises and assigns tasks to mechanics, ensuring proper workflow and efficient use of resources. Conducts PM (Preventative Maintenance) Inspections and Post-Trip Inspections. Diagnoses and oversees repairs of engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, and other major components. Ensures timely and high-quality repairs and maintenance of all company vehicles and equipment. Performs complex troubleshooting and assists mechanics with technical challenges. Oversees and ensures compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies. Maintains inventory of tools, parts, and supplies, coordinating procurement as needed. Serves as a liaison between mechanics, drivers, and management to resolve mechanical issues efficiently. Conducts performance evaluations and provides feedback to improve team efficiency. Ensures documentation and repair records are accurate and up to date.QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: 5+ years of diesel shop experience, including supervisory or leadership experience. Education: High school diploma required; technical school training in diesel mechanics or related field preferred. Skills & Knowledge: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. In-depth understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment repairs. Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues efficiently. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software. Knowledge of DOT and OSHA safety regulations. Ability to train, mentor, and develop mechanics. Certifications: ASE or other relevant certifications are a plus. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in varying conditions, and stand for extended periods.
