Job Summary:                                                                                                              

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading Electrical Maintenance repairs and project activities, while providing coordination of work for contractors in all work in assigned area (s) or as directed with Plant Management. In accordance with NRG policies, the Maintenance Supervisor is expected to plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of power plant equipment, machinery, and related facilities with specific attention to contractor coordination. Ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures, holding employees accountable for their performance.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Establish methods for providing maintenance and repair services; identify resource needs; review needs with maintenance manager; allocate resources accordingly. Develop and maintain comprehensive working knowledge of all equipment and systems residing in, or related to, assigned area(s). Effectively employs work management system to provide for the timely preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all systems and equipment in assigned area(s). Manage work backlog to deliver timely maintenance and maintain workforce productivity. Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures. Lead / support emergency response efforts – weather events, fire, environmental spills, etc. Ensures all Company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner and estimates resource requirements. Responsible for general housekeeping and cleanliness of assigned equipment and overall plant. Responsible for collateral duties and special projects as assigned. Responsible for communicating and leading in accordance with company vision and core values. Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress. Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them. Understands and consistently applies personnel policies and procedures and the principles of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Assesses risk, makes run-repair-replace recommendations and coordinates vendor selection for parts and services as required. Responsible for periodic duty coverage.

 

Working Conditions:

Normal office environment and/or power plant environment Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required. May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals. Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, gloves, ear plugs, etc.)

 

Minimum Requirements:

High School diploma or GED. Minimum of 8 years of experience in power plant electrical maintenance. Experience leading/supervising employees in a lead or head plant role. Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid Texas Driver’s License required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or similar discipline from an accredited college or university.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations; committed to making the workplace safe and environmentally sound. Knowledge of power plant systems and operations and comprehensive knowledge in the               area of responsibility. Demonstrated effective leadership and personnel management skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) at all levels of the           organization. Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with                      all individuals. Ability to use a personal computer and the ability to learn and operate within new systems and programs such as those needed for report writing, planning, scheduling, and timesheets.   Ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures. Ability to read, write and understand English. Ability to understand and use work management systems. Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Anticipates and accepts changes in the organization and adapts to meet the    new requirements. Willing to accept accountability for own decisions, performance, and behavior, as well as the performance of assigned employees. Possess skills and experience sufficient to teach   workers from the apprentice level through the journeyman level. Familiar with NERC Compliance.

 

Physical Requirements:

Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities. Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment.
