Maintenance Supervisor - 2nd Shift (Wheel Plant)

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution. Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising Maintenance teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering or a related technical discipline. Minimum of 3 years of experience in in an industrial maintenance environment.

Working Conditions:

Occasional weekend work required.

Physical Demands:

Lifting/Pushing/Pulling:  Moderately Heavy - Limited to 40 pounds Standing/Walking:  80% or more of workday Bending/Twisting:  20% or more of workday Temperature Extremes (percent of time working in non-climate controlled, production environment):  Frequently (50% - 80% of workday) Noise:  Hearing protection required at all times in shop and on production floor.

Position Summary: The primary function of this position is to plan, oversee and coordinate day-to-day maintenance execution of the facility, equipment and machinery at Howmet Barberton. 

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, this position is accountable for:

Setting expectations to ensure that EHS objectives, activities, and plans are achieved.  Leading and participating in the development of a safety driven culture and incident free workplace. Managing and setting expectations for the Barberton Maintenance team. Ensuring that preventative and responsive maintenance resources and programs are in place to support a 24x 5 (7) manufacturing operation that covers an asset base of 300+ million and 33 acres of manufacturing and office space. Promoting and leading the development and application of predictive maintenance, Root Cause Analysis, Total Productive Maintenance, and control/capability of critical processes. Participating in the identification, recruitment, training, appraising, and professional development of maintenance resources.

 

Essential Duties:

Diagnoses and assists in solving difficult maintenance problems and recurring malfunctions. Support operating results through the management of subordinates with emphasis on quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance. Ensure work is allocated fairly and clearly assigned to crew members; formulate and assign tasks within guidelines established by department management. Decide and deploy appropriate crewing arrangements for planned and unplanned situations based on absences, schedule requirements, equipment availability, and vacations within labor agreement guidelines. Identify opportunities for problem-solving teams targeting waste elimination. Determines maintenance and inspection methods and directs maintenance workers in operating procedures. Requisitions materials, supplies, and parts for department. This position must frequently seek cooperation from, persuade or influence others, and must develop relationships and persuade others to resolve problems, change people's minds, or directly produce customer satisfaction. Occasionally, the position deals with sensitive interpersonal situations and must motivate others, negotiate with others to obtain desired results. Understanding the maintenance philosophy and implementing the maintenance strategic plan to ensure cost effective asset management, long term viability of equipment, long term improvement of the maintenance organization and competent, well-rounded individuals to support operations. Understanding and utilizing department measures which enable tracking of performance and progress towards achieving department goals. Leading the maintenance forces in rapidly responding to breakdown situations. Completing the work which occurs on their shift in a cost-effective manner to ensure proper process and environmental equipment operation and availability. Working with craftspeople to apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques to minor exceptions to find and eliminate the fundamental problems. Develop individuals in the organization by providing challenging assignments for the craftspeople and by providing training, coaching, and mentoring for the people.
