Maintenance Manager

Towantic is a 785 MW dual-fuel combined cycle power plant, featuring a 2x1 configuration with two GE 7HA.01 gas turbines and a GE D602 steam turbine.

Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance and repair of plant facilities and equipment, ensuring mechanical, electrical, and control systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role plans and manages maintenance, repairs, and improvements while coordinating with other plant departments to meet operational needs.

Primary Duties

Oversee the activities of maintenance personnel in performing maintenance and repair activities in a safe and efficient manner consistent with company policies, procedures and the station maintenance manual and technical specifications Implement the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance program, including equipment failure records, and provide trend information to the Plant Manager The Maintenance Manager will also work with the station NERC coordinator to ensure NERC required testing is completed within the procedural timeframes. The NERC coordinator will file these test reports for documentation of the work being completed. Coordinate maintenance project activities by scheduling work, monitoring performance and providing technical expertise and direction to ensure that work is performed in a safe, timely and productive manner Develop and administer contracts and work scope for external contractors to ensure maximum efficiency in the use of plant and contractor personnel Develop and maintain budgets for preventive and corrective maintenance Determine project maintenance requirements by following preventive and predictive maintenance programs and reviewing, evaluating, and prioritizing maintenance work requests in order to establish job steps, estimate man-hours, and specify part and equipment needs Provide maintenance training for the operating shift technicians by presenting instruction on job-related skills and proper equipment repair procedures. Ensure that safety is built into each job assigned and that work is performed in an efficient and safe manner. Coordinate maintenance work interfaces with other plant departments to accomplish repairs in a timely and safe manner Prepare and maintain various reports and records that are required to verify the completion of project maintenance work and provide historical information for future maintenance planning Investigate and study new ideas, methods and technology related to power plant maintenance Recommend and implement improvements which will maximize the efficiency of maintenance work and reduce future maintenance requirements. Ensure these new methods are implemented through updating of maintenance procedures and training. Provide guidance and assistance to employees in the preparation of maintenance work requests Review Work Orders for completeness and accuracy and ensure that Work Orders are properly entered and closed out in the CMMS System Determine project maintenance requirements by helping implement the preventive maintenance programs, evaluating maintenance work requests and coordinate manpower needs, work prioritization, parts procurement and equipment scheduled outages Participate in the maintenance of the project operating and maintenance manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records Assist with the location, screening and hiring of maintenance personnel

Working Relationships 

The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate maintenance personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. 

Work Schedule

This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $152,000 to $183,000 and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who has extensive power plant combined cycle maintenance technical and leadership experience with a work history that demonstrates a pattern of accomplishments and advancement.

A technical undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience is desired Advanced knowledge and extensive experience in Power Plant operations or a similar field is required. Proven experience in managing maintenance programs, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, preferably in a power plant or similar industrial setting. Strong technical knowledge of power plant equipment and systems, with the ability to diagnose equipment failures and implement best practices for plant performance improvement. Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, capable of effectively overseeing and coordinating maintenance staff to ensure a safe and productive work environment. In-depth understanding of safety regulations and practices, with a track record of promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture within a team or organization. Experience in developing and implementing maintenance programs, including the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and reliability-centered maintenance approaches. Excellent communication skills, adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams and effectively communicating with superiors, subordinates, and external stakeholders. Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and addressing maintenance challenges and implementing effective improvements. Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
